For anyone with a bachelor’s degree in a field of study other than education who wants to become a licensed teacher
Master of Arts in Education (MAE) Admission
If you are a licensed teacher looking to add credentials or earn a master’s degree, applying to Muskingum is simple:
- Complete the online application form
- Submit the $20 Application Fee (checks payable to Muskingum University) or to pay using a credit/debit card, please call our office at 740-826-8038
- Request official transcripts from college or university where you earned your teaching license (must be sent directly from the institution to Muskingum to be considered official)
- Please have two individuals complete the Professional Disposition Survey (Education Specialist Applicants are required to submit three Professional Disposition Surveys).
- Submit a copy of your teaching license (may be emailed to graduate@muskingum.edu)
- Complete and submit the Student Travel Waiver Form

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Admission
If you hold a bachelor’s degree in a field of study other than education and wish to become a licensed teacher, applying to Muskingum is simple:
- Complete the online application form
- Submit the $20 Application Fee (checks payable to Muskingum University) or to pay using a credit/debit card, please call our office at 740-826-8038
- Request official transcripts from the college or university where you earned your bachelor's degree (must be sent directly from the institution to Muskingum to be considered official)
- Please have two individuals complete the Professional Disposition Survey
- Complete and submit the Student Travel Waiver Form
- Copies of current BCI and FBI checks
- BCI/FBI locations may be found on the Ohio Attorney General website
- Provide one of the qualifying standardized test scores:
- PRAXIS I* (Core Academic Skills for Educators, www.ets.org):
- Reading: qualifying score ≥169 (test code 5712)
- Mathematics: qualifying score ≥163 (test code 5733)
- --OR--
- GRE:
- Verbal qualifying score ≥150
- Quantitative qualifying score ≥150
- --OR--
- ACT/SAT*
- PRAXIS I* (Core Academic Skills for Educators, www.ets.org):
*The PRAXIS I or GRE requirement may be waived with inclusion in a cohort group that has an average above the national norm (50th percentile) on standardized test sub-scores in mathematics and reading (e.g. ACT 21.25 sub-scores for mathematics and reading, 532.50 SAT sub-score for mathematics, 543.33 for reading). While the cohort average may fluctuate from semester to semester, a student is guaranteed admittance with sub-scores that meet or exceed the national norm; individuals may be admitted with scores lower based upon the strength of the cohort (scores may be emailed to graduate@muskingum.edu).
