When Daniel Jennings enrolled at Muskingum, he brought a passion for coffee and the role it plays in people’s lives: “Some of the most important conversations people have are over coffee.”
During the spring of his freshman year, he teamed up with fellow students Luke Lloyd ’19, A.J. Kazmierczak ’17, Olivia Rhodes ’18, and Matt Triola ’18 to found Jennings Java Coffee Roasters. A small batch coffee roaster with a mission to educate customers on the origin of coffee while providing them with premium, handpicked, single origin coffee, their products are available on campus, in regional coffee shops and restaurants, at farmer’s markets and festivals, and through on-line ordering. In 2017, the company won a share of the Muskingum County Business Incubator’s 2017 “Shark Tub” top investment prize and was selected to deliver a pitch on stage during CNBC and Inc. Magazine’s iCONIC Conference in New York City.
Muskingum’s entrepreneurial Ignition program was created by Assistant Professor of Computer Science Jay Shaffstall, Associate Professor of Media Design Tom German, and Associate Professor of Business Gary Golden. Gary Golden and Muskingum’s Vice President for Finance & Operations Philip Laube ’09 MISST accompanied the Jennings Java team to the iCONIC conference, where they connected with CNBC’s Nik Deogun ’91.
