The American Baseball Coaches Association has announced seven individuals to be inducted to the
ABCA Hall of Fame in January 2022.

The ABCA Hall of Fame Class of 2022 includes:

Gary Gilmore, Coastal Carolina University (S.C.)
David McDonald, Wheeler (Ga.) High School

Marty Paulsen, Fond du Lac (Wis.) High School

The 2022 ABCA Hall of Fame Banquet induction ceremony will be held during the 78th annual ABCA
Convention on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at the Marriott Marquis in Chicago, Illinois. The 2022 ceremony
will also include the induction of the eight-member ABCA Hall of Fame Class of 2021 due to the
cancellation of the in-person 2021 ABCA Convention.

Tickets for the event will be available for purchase online. ABCA members will be able to purchase
tickets through their Convention registration. Those wishing to attend the banquet only will be able to
purchase tickets beginning September 1.

Induction to the ABCA Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed by the organization. The ABCA
was founded in 1945 and the Hall of Fame began in 1966.

Paul Page, Ohio Dominican University
Paul Page served 29 seasons as head coach at Ohio Dominican University before retiring in
2016. The winningest coach in school history compiled a career record of 1,007-552-7 (.643)
and ranked among the top 13 in career NAIA wins (864) and fifth in win percentage (.683) prior
to the program transitioning to NCAA status.

Under Page’s leadership, Ohio Dominican won at least 30 games in a season a remarkable 22
times, including 10 seasons of 40 or more wins. His teams played their way into six NAIA
World Series appearances and captured 11 regular season and nine conference tournament
championships.

In his time at Ohio Dominican, Page produced 39 All-Americans and 20 Academic AllAmericans. Under his tutelage, former Panther southpaw Jonathan Sanchez reached the big leagues and helped the San Francisco Giants to the 2010 World Series title.

The five-time conference Coach of the Year and two-time district Coach of the Year also
served as Ohio Dominican’s Athletic Director from 1988-2004. As Athletic Director, Page
initiated several of the athletic department’s fundraisers and helped improve and expand
many of the school’s athletic facilities.

A native of Williamstown, West Virginia, Page graduated from Muskingum College (Ohio) in
1973, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and was an all-conference catcher.
After his days as a Muskie, Page continued his education at Mississippi State. He coached for
two seasons under ABCA Hall of Fame coach Ron Polk as a graduate assistant before
receiving his master’s degree in health and physical education in 1978.

Page would go on to serve as an assistant coach at Marietta College (Ohio), helping to guide
the program to NCAA Div. III national titles in 1981 and 1983 before taking over at Ohio
Dominican in 1988.

Amy Carol Smith died peacefully at her home in North Wales, Pennsylvania, on July 26, 2021, after a two-year battle with cancer, a diagnosis she handled with pragmatism and grace. Amy was born on July 13, 1951, the daughter of Wendell and Ruby Smith, and grew up in Minerva, Ohio. She graduated from Minerva High School in 1969 and Muskingum College in 1973. After college she joined the United Methodist US-2 mission program for young adults, serving two years in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. She then attended United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, and was ordained in 1976, a proud member of the first wave of women clergy in the United Methodist Church. She served many churches in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference during her career, most recently Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church in Hatboro, and the First United Methodist Church of Phoenixville. She remained active in the conference even after her retirement in 2012. Amy was known for her long and steadfast friendships, her love of ice cream and baseball, and her inherent frugality. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 24 years, Timothy D. Caum, his three children and four grandchildren, who Amy loved as her own; her three siblings, Melissa (Dan) Clayton, Andrew (Ellen) Smith, and Sarah (Bill) Lange; her niece and three nephews. Amy's life was enriched by her church community, neighbors, and friends she cherished. The family wishes to thank them for their love and support during her illness.

William (Bill) T. Culbertson passed peacefully in his home on March 15. Born July 30, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, to parents William E. and Phyllis A. (Thurston) who predeceased him. Bill graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1969 and attended Muskingum University, graduating with a business degree in 1973. After college, he began a career in banking that would span more than 45 years, spending many years with Huntington Bank and fully retiring from Signature Bank in 2020. Active in the greater Bowling Green community, Bill served as past President of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce and as Trustee of Wood County Hospital. He was also a proud member of the Bowling Green City Council for 8 years and a longtime member of the Bowling Green Board of Utilities. Bill enjoyed spending his spare time outdoors biking, golfing and tending to his yard. He also enjoyed reading, bourbon, and live music most recently he visited his favorite haunt, The Slippery Noodle Inn. He loved sports from coaching little league baseball, supporting his children's athletic adventures, loyally supporting any Detroit team along with the Buckeyes and recently cheering on his grandkids. Left to cherish his memory are Tam Rolf, his committed partner, his children, the pride of his life: David (Danielle) of Columbus, Ohio, Michael (Melinda) of Canton, Ohio and Stephen (Shannon) of South Lyon, Michigan, and their mother. He was thrilled to be GP to seven incredible grandchildren: Gabrielle, Isabelle, Miles, Elliott, Stella, Lucas, and Andrew. Always a loving brother, he is survived by his sister Hollis (Ed) Pearson of Westampton, New Jersey and her family. He was blessed to have countless friends who loved him, including Tam's extended family, and colleagues who admired and respected him.

Edna Sharp 93 of Richmond, Ohio passed away March 3, 2023 at Gables Care Center. She was born April 7, 1929 in Cumberland, Maryland a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Kyle) Hawkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Sharp; grandsons, Mark Adam Moore and infant grandson, Steven Robert Moore; brothers, Morris and Raymond Hawkins; sister-in-law, Ila Faye Hawkins. 

Edna was a graduate of Muskingum College. Her first job in education was teaching at Unionvale then Irondale and spent most of the years as a teacher at Edison Local mainly with kindergarten and first grade. She was a former member of Annapolis Presbyterian and was a member of Richmond Presbyterian Church where she played the piano for many years. She loved her grandchildren and always enjoyed watching them in sports and other activities. For many years after retirement Edna spent winters in Florida with her husband. 

She is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Greg) Smith and Mary Ann (Steve) Moore; grandsons, Rob (Val) Moore and Stevie (Kacey) Moore; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Marcus, Lydia, and Chloe; brothers, Carl (Stella) Hawkins, Johnny (Sally) Hawkins, Neil (Carolyn) Hawkins, Nancy (Rich) Taylor, sister-in-law, Ruth Hawkins. 

Timothy Reed Hutchinson
July 10, 1951 ~ January 26, 2023 (age 71)

There's a little less magic in the world today. Timothy Hutchinson was born July 10, 1951 and lived most of his life in Defiance, Ohio, a community he loved and in which he formed many deep connections. He participated in community life through serving on the board of the Public Library and the Tuttle Museum and as a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Defiance.  He balanced small town life with many travels and friendships around the world. 

Tim earned his undergraduate degree from Muskingum College in 1973. He obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Lewis and Clark Law School in 1979, taking a year off between studies to spend 6 months travelling in Europe as well as some time working on a fishing boat in Alaska.   Following graduation, Tim moved to San Francisco, CA and began his career as a clerk for City Hall. Following the passing of Tim’s father, Reeder Hutchinson in 1982, he decided to move back to Ohio, passing the Ohio Bar in 1988. He worked for 12 years as the Assistant Defiance County Prosecutor for Defiance County. In recent years, Tim provided specialized legal support on a contractual basis for a Defiance law firm.

One of Tim’s favorite past times was holding court with anyone he was with, retelling the stories of his adventures in early adulthood, from his years traveling in Europe, working on deep sea fishing charter boats and living in fun cities. Tim had an encyclopedic knowledge of almost any topic of conversation and if you spoke with him about something he didn’t know much about, you could be sure that by your next conversation he would. Tim loved to do research and was always reading. He didn’t just read about things that interested him though, he went out of his way to learn about things that were important to the people he cared about. He was known for subscribing to newspapers in other cities, just so he could keep up with what was happening in the places where his friends and family were living.

His other passion was magic and he loved delighting people with his tricks. Children especially loved his tiny foam bunnies that he would make disappear and multiply. He had fond memories of going to magic shows with his father, Reeder Hutchinson, who was also a magician, and he formed friendships with other magicians all over the country.
Tim dedicated his life to helping his mother, Mildred, and doting on his surviving nieces and nephew, who never got tired of his stories and his magic tricks. He was always ready to assist with advice on how to get the best possible deal for any major purchase; cars, electronics, phone plans- he put his incredible research skills to great use. He also spent years researching and travelling to map out extensive family genealogies and could explain the complexities in detail from memory. Tim had friends across the country with whom he kept close contact and traveled to see regularly. Despite distance and the busyness of life, he made sure to keep in touch with the people he loved. 

He is survived by his nieces and nephew, Leana Tank, Audrey Hutchinson and Reed Befus. He was preceded in death by his father, Reeder Hutchinson, his mother, Mildred Hutchinson and his sister, Barbara Befus. 

We certainly weren’t ready for you to go, Tim, but your magic will live on forever with the people who love you.

Wayne Elton Roberts, 72, of Columbia Station, born January 15, 1950, died at home on Sunday, November 20, 2022 following a lengthy illness. Wayne was born to Elton and Stella Roberts of Olmsted Falls, who preceded him in death.

He and his wife owned Roberts Flower Supply in Columbia Station. He loved orchids and teaching people how to grow them. He was a member of the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society, Westshore Orchid Society and Greater Akron Orchid Society. He was also a chemist and enjoyed woodworking.

He graduated from Olmsted Falls High School. In his younger years, he played football and was an avid chess player.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Nancy Kay Roberts of Columbia Station; sons, Will Elton Roberts and his wife, Yvonne of Elyria and Fred Samuel Roberts and his wife, Courtney of Cleveland, and three grandchildren, Timothy, Jonathan, and Lydia. He loved his second family of Orchid Societies.

Penelope Susan Ellsworth, age 69, went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2020. Penny and her twin sister Pam were born on March 20, 1951, to Linda and Richard Ellsworth. As children, they and their three siblings had many fun family times especially during the summer on trips across the United States. Penny enjoyed those trips so much that she took her own children and nieces and nephews on memorable camping trips. Penny spent her entire adult life teaching. She loved math and loved her students, providing them with fun and challenging activities like Math Pentathlon and Camp Invention. She was good at seeing the strengths in her students and encouraging them to be problem solvers. Penny also loved the church. She was an active member of Central College Church from the age of 7 until she died. She led youth groups, directed summer camp, and, most importantly, directed the bell choirs. Under her guidance, the choirs participated in worship and festivals, traveled to Scotland, and went on mission trips. Penny also loved her family. She enjoyed planning outings, especially the last few years, so all the nieces and nephews and their children would stay connected. She especially loved her daughters, Anna and Ashley, and loved to talk about them and their accomplishments. Ashley's sons, Chiren and Kaisen, also brought her much joy. Always a dog lover, she became particularly attached to a rescue dog named Kaedyn who became her close companion. Another great joy for Penny was her friends. She relied on them more the last few years and appreciated and enjoyed them immensely. Penny's greatest love was for her Lord. Her Christian faith guided her throughout her life and gave her strength and courage to face the challenges of her illness the last few years. Penny was preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother, Linda Ellsworth, her sister and brother-in-law Beth and Ray Walker, and several dear friends. Penny is survived by her daughters, Anna and Ashley; grandsons, Kaisen and Chiren; father, Richard Ellsworth; twin sister, Pam (Jim) Miller, sister, Jennifer Turick; brother Peter (Sarah) Ellsworth; uncle, Charles Wells; cousin, Karen Ellsworth; nieces and nephews and their children, her church family, and her many loving friends. 

Mark H. Scrimshaw "Scrim" Of East Aurora, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Mark was 72 years old. He was the son of the late Hal and Ruth Scrimshaw, also of East Aurora. Mark is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kristine Ellen Scrimshaw; his Daughter Jennifer Lynn (Billy) Ramsey; sister Marcia (David) Debbinck and several nieces and nephews. Mark attended and graduated from East Aurora High School, class of 1969. He continued his education at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, where he graduated with a BA in Business and met his beautiful wife, Krissy. After an early retirement from customer service with NYSEG, his Journey into entrepreneurship began! Ranging from Franz Furniture, Just Sports Stuff, Running a local bar, Vacuums Unlimited, to his last journey building a golf course, Spruce Ridge, in Arcade, NY. Truly never a dull moment! Mark was always on an adventure. Even with all of Marks adventures, one thing always stayed true, his love and dedication to the East Aurora Boys and Girls club and Camp Ska-no-ka-san. AKA known as the "Wizard". He did have many other loves in life...The Bills, Sabres, Yankees, sailing his sailboat, Dudas baseball, but especially a reason to get together with friends and just eat, drink and listen to music gotta have music! For the soul!

Brenton F. Brent Lehigh, 74, of Tuscarawas, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2025 in Park Village Care Centre at Dover. Born at Dennison, Brent was the son of the late Lyle E. and Emma (Thompson) Lehigh and was a cherished member of his community and a dedicated family man. Brent lived a life filled with purpose, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.Brent s journey began with a deep passion for education. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Muskingum University and went on to earn his Master's Degree from the University of Dayton. He embarked on his teaching career with the Claymont School System, where he devoted 30 years of his life and also coached high school basketball. His kindness and gentle demeanor made him a beloved figure, as he had an extraordinary ability to make others feel at ease. Brent took on a new venture in 1979 as the Owner of Lehigh Insurance Agency in Uhrichsville. He successfully ran the agency until he sold it in 2013, marking the end of a second chapter in his career. Yet, true to his nature of never staying idle, he later served as a driver for Senior Transportation of Tuscarawas County for five fulfilling years until health challenges prompted him to retire for a third time. Brent was an honorable veteran of the United States Army Reserve, serving with the 717th Railroad Battalion at Dennison and the 361st MP's at Canton. His service instilled in him a sense of duty and pride that he carried throughout his life. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Brent was a man who cherished family and community. He was a longtime member of Sharon Moravian Church in Tuscarawas and was also an active member of the Indian Valley Athletic Booster Club, having served as a past President, reflecting his commitment to supporting youth sports and community initiatives. Additionally, he was involved with the Claymont Jaycees and the Warwick Lions, sharing his time and talents generously. Brent s love for sports was infectious. He was a multi sport athlete earning him the title of the first Mr Polaris at IVN. He enjoyed all types of sports and especially relished the moments spent watching his children and then his grandchildren participate in their athletic endeavors. Brent enjoyed hanging out at his cabin with his closest friends and also his Tuesday breakfast crew. Travel was another passion of Brent s, particularly trips with his wife to Myrtle Beach and the mountains of Tennessee, creating memories that would last in their hearts forever. Brent is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Sara J. (Swaldo) Lehigh of the residence; his two children, Jamie (Michele) Lehigh of New Philadelphia and Lori (Jamie) Hartrick of Tuscarawas; his six grandchildren, Alec Hartrick, Karson (Baycee) Hartrick, Braeden Lehigh, Kolby Hartrick, Blake Lehigh and Brooklyn Lehigh; his great grandson, Hayes Brenton Hartrick; a brother, Bryan (Jennifer) Lehigh of Gnadenhutten; a sister in-law, Lynn Carper of Tuscarawas and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Brent was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Tom Russell; a brother-in-law, Tim Carper; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vicki and Terry Leggett and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ervin and Kate Swaldo.

Gene Ford, 66, of Cambridge passed away Friday (June 28, 2019) at OSU James Cancer Center with his family near.

He was born August 4, 1952 in Midvale and was the son of Margaret (Steve) Ford of Cambridge and the late Donald E. Ford.

Gene was a retired basketball coach

He is survived by three sons, Ryan (Rebecca) Ford of Cambridge, Geno (Traci) Ford of Long Island, NY, and Dustin (Marcie) Ford of Stowe; one brother Mark Ford of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, Darin, Abbie, David, Max, Bryson, Nolan, Colin Ford; several close friends…you know who you are.

James William Ransbottom Roseville James William Ransbottom, 67, of Roseville died Sunday, July 26, 2020 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Jim was born on October 24, 1952, the only son to the late J. Alfred and Georgiana (nee: Cannon) Ransbottom. Jim graduated with his undergraduate degree from Muskingum University and earned his juris doctor from Marshall Law School at the Cleveland State University. He spent nearly 15 Years as the managing partner of his law firm, Graham, McClelland, McCann & Ransbottom. Jim also held many other business interests and ventures throughout the area. Even through all of his endeavors and accomplishments, Jim was most at home spending times outdoors, especially fishing, mushroom and shed hunting, and spending time with his dog, Maggie. Jim is survived in life by his fiance, Robyn Rollison; his sons, Brandon Ransbottom, Perry Kyle (Alexis) Ransbottom and Barry Ransbottom; his sisters, Amy (Pete) Petratsas and Lynn (Rod) Stickrath and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as, two grandchildren. 

James William Ransbottom, 67, of Roseville died Sunday, July 26, 2020 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Jim was born on October 24, 1952, the only son to the late J. David Robert, 8/30/52-11/10/20, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. David was born to parents Helen and Al in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in nearby Sewickley. He was an art and psychology major at Muskingum College and received his Masters in Arts Education from Rutgers University. David went on to teach high school art in Michigan for over 30 years. His classes spanned from drawing and painting to digital photography, building a deep connection with his students. He served as chair of the Fine Arts Department at Walled Lake Central High School for many years, in addition to his leadership roles with the National Art Education Association and the Michigan Art Education Association. In recognition of his excellence in teaching, he was awarded the teacher of the year at Walled Lake Central in 1991. Those who knew David well also knew him as an avid photographer and skilled chef. Both were outlets for his creativity and opportunities to express his love and appreciation for others. David was preceded in death by his parents, Al Deluca and Helen Brncic DeLuca, his brother Ronald, and many amazing aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brother Gregory and his son and wife, Zack and Olga. His dear aunt, Ann Tomlinson also survives. Surviving are brother and sister in-laws, Brian and Nancy Johnson, David and Judy Johnson, and Bruce and JoEllen Johnson and a wonderful group of nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Brenda Johnson, and his beloved son, Taylor Johnson DeLuca. David was so grateful for the wonderful care he received from the medical team at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Their skill and compassionate care allowed him to far surpass any initial expectations for both time and quality of life. For those who wish to honor David's life, the family suggests contributions to any arts education organization or to cancer research. But, most of all, we suggest you remember him by pausing to enjoy the beauty in the world around you or by savoring a homemade meal, especially if it's Italian.

Donald L. Barrett, age 69, passed away on November 11, 2021. He was born in Columbus, OH on November 22, 1951 to Carl and Helen Barrett. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Barrett; daughter, Emily (Tom) Terflinger; son, Daniel (Nicole) Barrett; grandchildren, Grace, Tyler and Cameron Terflinger; brother, Fred Barrett. Don is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Katie Barrett.

Don was a 1970 graduate of Groveport High School. He was also a 1974 graduate of Muskingum College for Speech and Secondary Education. Since 1980, Don spent 32 years of his career at the Columbus Health Department as an Environmental Health Specialist and Registered Sanitarian. He was also an Adjunct Professor in Hospitality Management. In 2006, he was the Ohio Restaurant Educator of the Year. Don Retired in 2008 and went to work for Giant Eagle for 7 years as a Food Safety Specialist. In his free time, Don loved to play golf, sing Southern Gospel Music and spend time with his family.

Kenley Darrell Padfield, age 73, passed away Tuesday, July 19th, 2022. Mr. Padfield was born September 16, 1948 in Prescott, Arkansas to the late David John Padfield and the late Lola Wortham Padfield. He was a resident of New Jersey prior to retiring to Florida and subsequently moving to Aiken, South Carolina in 2006. Mr. Padfield was a successful small business owner in New Jersey. Prior to that, his athleticism led him to a career as a physical education professor and a coach at Muskingum University in Ohio. He went on to lead the 1973 and 1974 men's basketball teams to be the Ohio Athletic Conference champions. He was an avid golfer. He began playing in his teenage years and ultimately served on the Board of Governors and was President of the Suburban Golf Club in Union, New Jersey. Ken had a beautiful singing voice which he used to start a band, Marauders, in his younger years and was popular at many of the local college campuses. More recently, he devoted his time to attending RCIA classes at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church to become a member of the Church. Ken greatly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. His quick smile, larger than life personality and warm heart will be dearly missed by his loved ones. Survivors include his wife, Carole Padfield; two daughters, Keri Padfield Spitz (Joel) and Jennifer Chappell (James); one son Jeffrey Padfield (Ashley); and eleven grandchildren. 

Richard Allan "RICH" Simcox 76 of Cambridge Ohio went to his heavenly home July 9th, 2022. He was born June 3rd, 1946, in Cambridge, to James Richard "Dick" Simcox and Delilah Elizabeth "Dee" (Sayre) Simcox. Rich Graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio-Class of 1964. He attended Case Institute of Technology, Baldwin-Wallace College, and Graduated from Muskingum College with a Bachelor of Music Cum Laude class of 1974. Rich also served in the US AIR FORCE from 1968 to 1972 as senior Instrumentalist at Scott AFB MO and in the Command Air Lift Band in MO. Rich enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, and taking his many cousins on hikes through the woods on the Sayre family farm. Rich's life passion was his music. His main instrument was the trumpet and played on Cruise ships and in many bands including his father's Dixieland/Jazz band, the "Dick Simcox Big Band" which Rich took over and directed after his father's passing. Rich played in the Cambridge City Band, the Zanesville City Band, the Coshocton Lake Park Band, and the Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra to name a few. He directed many area music organizations including musicals at the Living Word Outdoor Drama, the Cambridge Performing Arts Center, the Cambridge City Band, the Barbershop Chorus, Sweet Adelines, Land 'O Lakes Chorus and has been the Choir Director at First Christian Church of Cambridge since 1978. Rich not only directed many performances at the local theatres but was quite the actor, having played lead roles in popular musicals such as 'The Music Man", "Carousel" and "The Flower Drum Song". Rich was a well know music educator in the area, having taught in many of the area high schools, as well as Muskingum College and providing private lessons to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Ann Simcox. Rich leaves behind one brother, David (Nancy) Simcox of New Jersey, a special cousin Olivia Edwards of Cambridge, four nieces; Laura Hotalling of Missouri, Megan Simcox of New Jersey, Melanie Simcox of Vermont and Margo VanHeusden of New Jersey, Several great nieces and nephews and many cousins and extended family including his church family who were always there for him. 

Thomas Best, age 71, of High Bridge, NJ, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Tom was born on April 8, 1952, in Elizabeth, NJ, to Irma (Koos) Best and the late Thomas Best. Tom was a graduate of Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School in Clark, NJ and went on to continue his education at Muskingum University in Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor's degree. He also attended various technical institutes where he earned certifications to further his education and career. He most recently worked as a Multicraft Maintenance Mechanic at Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals in Bridgewater, NJ, up until his retirement in 2012. He married the love of his life, Mary Mulligan Best, on May 4, 1985.Together they raised three children; Sara, Brian, and Lukas. As his children grew, Tom was very active in coaching their sports and being there through many life achievements. Tom was always the life of the party, loud and charismatic. He enjoyed many evenings sitting at his neighbors' houses telling stories and having laughs. He also enjoyed tinkering with his motorcycles. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren who brought him great joy. Thomas will be forever missed by his loving wife, Mary Best; daughter, Sara Laster and her husband Chase; sons, Brian Best and his wife Brooke, Lukas Best and his wife Natalie; and his four grandchildren, Sawyer, Saylor, Ava and Quinn. Tom is also survived by his sister, Joan DeCosimo, her husband Paul DeCosimo and their children Lauren and Chris; his mother, Irma Best and his aunt, Elinor Blore. 

Ralph S. Hodgdon, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in Wooster, OH surrounded by his family. Ralph was born on June 12, 1941 in Canton, OH to Ralph Hodgdon, Sr. from Canton and Dorothy Nixon Hodgdon from Magnolia, OH. He was their only child and grew up just north of Zoar, OH. He married Connie Gaeth Hodgdon on June 17, 1967. She survivesHe was a graduate of Sandy Valley High School and attended Muskingum College for two years before transferring to Mount Union College to complete a degree in biology and chemistry in 1963. He then took a job as assistant dorm director at Muskingum College where he and Connie met. He later attended the Ohio State University, where he earned his MA in Educational Administration with a major in counseling psychology. He began his professional life as an instructor of Psychology at Brevard Junior College in Cocoa, FL where he and Connie began their married life. They later moved back to Ohio where he began employment with Ernst & Young and later progressed to a position with Family Motor Coach Association. He then started a research laboratory business, WIL Labs, in Cincinnati, which grew to be a successful business. Later, after moving to Wooster, OH he switched gears and went into nursing home administration. He then worked with Altercare Integrated Health Services as a Nursing Home Administrator until he retired. One of Ralph's greatest loves was flying airplanes and he could often be found at the Wayne County Airport with his flying buddies. He owned a small, private plane for several years and had many adventures flying the family to vacations in Florida. Other interests included motorcycles, cars and boating. He was most content throughout his life when he had activities that included motorized vehicles and bodies of water. The family has memories of lake and sea fishing as well as water skiing and pontoon rides with Ralph as the captain, and the dog by his side. He started each day by reading the Wall Street Journal over coffee and was often up before anyone else. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his daughters Jenny and Cathy and his four grandchildren at their vacation home at Apple Valley Lake in Howard, OH. He was also a shooting enthusiast and enjoyed an afternoon at the shooting range with friends at Fin, Feather & Fur. He loved to read and was self-educated on a variety of topics, including Christianity, reincarnation, cosmic studies, politics and finance. He was a believer in the power of prayer and spiritual connections. Surviving in addition to his wife, Connie, are his daughters Jenny (Jorge) Diaz of Perrysburg OH, Cathy (Everett) Ross of Columbus and grandchildren Elizabeth Diaz, Nathan Ross, Alexander Diaz and Owen Ross. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ralph will be remembered by his family for his grounded demeanor, good nature, sense of humor and spirit of adventure

Thomas Bainbridge Eager passed away on July 9, 2023 surrounded by family. He was 71 years old. He was born on January 14, 1952 the son of the late Marilyn and Henry Eager in Watertown, NY. He grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. He attended Muskingum University where in his senior year he was a student aboard World Campus Afloat and spent a semester at sea exploring the Pacific Basin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1974. He began working for American Airlines in 1976 where he met the love of his life and wife of 44 years, Betsy. They moved to the Dallas Fort Worth area where they raised two sons. He had a 39-year career with American Airlines and Sabre as an Information Systems Director. He retired in 2015 and moved to the Eastern shore of Maryland. Summers were spent at his beloved family cottage on Lake Ontario. He was a Boy Scout Leader, the president of Homeports, member of Rebuild Together and Elder at the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown. He will be remembered for his calm demeanor and ability to listen to others. Always the voice of reason. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betsy (Reed) Eager; 2 sons, Tristan Eager (Amy) of Dallas, TX and Kevin Eager (Jackie) of Corpus Christie, TX; a sister, Mary Cline (Jim) of Victor, MT; 3 grandchildren, Julian, Hudson and Dylan and one grandpuppy, Hobie.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Donivan Martin Stir of Ashville, Ohio on Friday, August 11, 2023. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. The eldest of four children, Donivan was born on March 13, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio. He lived for his family and friends and loved all things outdoors. He was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. Donivan held many titles in his life, but his favorite role was being a father and a “Pappy”. Despite spending a lot of time with treatments in his final years, he took every opportunity to be with his family and live life to the fullest.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Stir Jr.; mother, Betty Martin Stir Melvin and sister, Debra Butcher. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 45 years, Nancy Stir; daughter, Allison (DJ) Walters and granddaughter, Olivia. Other relatives include sister, Roxanne Ritchey and brother, Dennis (Theresa) Stir, sister-in-law, Pat (Kevin) Carter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donivan went to Teays Valley where he was a talented athlete exceling in football and baseball. He continued his education at Muskingum College where he played football all four years and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education. His professional work included farming and teaching. After 30 years, he retired as a physical education teacher at Walnut Elementary with Teays Valley Schools.

Special friends include Terry Wright, Bill “Duke” Ferris, Lee Stiles and Robert Dick. Terry states, “I will miss his appreciation for “farm life” and his respect for each of our efforts to keep things going. Most of all I will miss the many chats and laughs during our picnics in the field during harvest. He was a part of our family, and he was a true friend- I will miss that most of all.” Bill writes “Will miss his loyalty as a true friend.” Lee commented that “Donnie was a humble man. If we ever disagreed he would let me know and he would be right.” Robert wrote, “I told him once he was like a big brother to me that I never had. I will truly miss him.”

Affectionately known as the Ironman, Donivan was a faithful member of the NSTRA-Ohio Region. Running in field trials with his many English Setters was a passion of his. For 30 years, Donivan was a field trialer, trainer, breeder, judge, trial chair, and officer.
In his fraternity, the MACE club, Donivan’s nickname was “Big Cat”. Loved by all of his brothers, he enjoyed his regular get togethers and some of his favorite MACE adventures included visiting Thorney in Montana, going to Canada with Waibs, meeting Tony in Granville and DV’s tailgates! Finally, for 15 years he enjoyed playing euchre with Mike, Lee, and Tim.

Brian W. Armstrong, age 71, of Canton passed away November 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family following a valiant fight against ALS. He was born in Canton on June 7, 1952, to Charles and Betty (Schwalenberg) Armstrong and graduated from Sebring High School, Muskingum College, where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Brian also graduated from the University of Akron with his Master's Degree in Counseling. Brian dedicated his career to the education and coaching fields. He spent over 40 years at Northwest High School, where he founded the Cross Country Team and coached basketball and track. Brian is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters Julie (Michael) Dolfi and Ashley (Matthew) Eiden; grandchildren Ella Dolfi and Brett, Palmer, and Avery Eiden; brother Bruce (Donna) Armstrong. 

David Eugene Lyle, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 71. Born on May 25, 1952, in Mansfield, Ohio, to John C. and Betty J. (Keller) Lyle. David spent his life bringing joy to others through his wit, music and culinary talents. David was a man of many talents and passions. In his younger years, he showcased his love for music as a member of various bands in the 1970s and 80s, leaving his mark on the local music scene. He enjoyed showing his talents at the Presbyterian Church in Mt. Gilead which he attended regularly in the 1960's and 70's and was a member of the All Ohio Youth Choir. He attended Muskingum College from 1970-1973 and was a member of the Muskingum College Alumni Association. David also had a love for reading and the Mansfield public library where he would check out books and books on audio. David is survived by his brothers, Ric (Suzi) Lyle of Mount Gilead, Tom (Theresa) Lyle of Mount Gilead, and John Lyle of Waterford, Maine, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Lyle.

Dr. Katherine E. Reist, 81, Johnstown, died February 1, 2024, at home. Born December 5, 1942, in Patterson, NJ. Daughter of Gordon and Virginia (Robertson) Kennedy. Preceded in death by parents, former husband William K. Reist and brother Douglas S. Kennedy. Survived by sons Gregory K. and Michael A., and sister Carol Kennedy. Katherine was a graduate of Ridgewood High School in NJ, received her bachelor's degree from Muskingum College in OH and her masters and PHD from Ohio State University. She was a history professor at UPJ since 1988 and retired in 2023. She supported the local food pantry and donations may be made there in her memory.

Elizabeth Claire Nutting (Betsy) passed away February 10, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital hospice after a long, hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Betsy was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was the daughter of Robert E. Nutting, Sr and Mary Weyer Nutting and sister of the late John Nutting.
Betsy received a BA in art education from Muskingum College in Ohio and an MEd in special education at Acadia University. Betsy was a caring educator teaching art therapy at nursing homes and special education students at schools in Philadelphia as well as at Upper Perkiomen middle school and Meade elementary school in Allentown PA.
Betsy was known for her kindness and generosity to family and friends and especially for her animals. In addition to her dogs Pachay and Jackie, Betsy adopted 11 cats into her home and was a part of a feral cat support group in Allentown. Her love of all creatures led to her creating a wildlife habitat in her back garden to nourish bees, butterflies and birds.
A third order Franciscan, Betsy honored her faith by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, doing pastoral care, volunteering at assisted living facilities and pursuing her Bible studies. She was able to travel widely in Europe and The Holy Land where she traced the origins of her faith and formed many friendships with her fellow travelers.
Betsy is survived by her brother Robert E. Nutting, Jr (Sandra), her nephew Jeremy Nutting (Amy), her niece Carey Goldblatt (Jeremy) and six great nieces and nephews.

Rev. Christina "Tina" Robb, age 71, quietly passed away at 3:30pm on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the MediLodge Nursing Center of Munising. She had resided at MediLodge with her husband Jim by her side since May of 2023. Tina is now pain free and in the arms of Jesus at peace.

Tina was born in North Plainfield, NJ on September 17, 1952, the first child born to Dorothy T. (Tucher) and Kenneth H. Collins. She was also the first grandchild on both sides of the family. Tina had one brother Paul who preceded her in death in 1994.

Tina attended college at Muskingum University in New Concord, OH and graduated in 1974. She felt the call from God to become a pastor, following her grandfather, the Venerable Henry Van Parsell of New Jersey. She attended Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY from 1974-1979. She studied theology and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church of the United States in Cincinnati along with her husband the Rev. James Robb in August of 1980. Tina and Jim were united in marriage on August 23, 1975, in Louisville, KY. They were not blessed with any children, but they were "parents" to many dogs during their 49½ years of marriage. Tina was currently a member of Munising United Methodist Church.

Theodore (Ted) Barnhart Rademacher, born in Urbana, with residences in both Springfield, Ohio and The Villages, Florida passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. Ted graduated from Urbana High School in 1970, and then from Muskingum University in Business in 1974. He worked at Barnhart Stores as comptroller for many years, eventually moving to London, Ohio to manage the London store. While in London, he purchased to then manage several rental properties. He then moved to Springfield and spent a lot of time thrifting with a good friend Vera Lambert. Ted enjoyed traveling abroad with Vera, not only for personal travel, but sometimes representing the United Methodist Church. To help fund an orphanage in Africa, he tried to establish an airboat ride company to take tourists down the Mara River in Tanzania. Ted wintered in The Villages and eventually established residency there, seven houses up the street from his brother's house. Ted loved antiques and art, and collected both. Researching the provenance of a purchase was one of his greatest pleasures. Ted was always a creative thinker, considering out of the box ideas. He enjoyed flying with his brother on various adventures. He enjoyed playing football, track, and soccer and in later years he walked regularly. He loved to tell the story that his brother Rick was born in Mercy Hospital, Champaign County, Urbana, Illinois and that he was born in Mercy Hospital in Champaign County, Urbana, Ohio Ted was a beloved brother, uncle, and great uncle who participated in family events regularly and will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Jerry Rademacher, stepmother June Davidson Rademacher, grandparents Corwin and Flora Barnhart, and adored great uncle and aunt, Ray and Grace Derr. He is survived by his brother Rick ( Constance), nephew Matt (Jerilyn) Rademacher, and great nephews Alex and Eric.

Gail Candace Richards, 68, of Columbiana, OH, passed away at her home on Monday, July 26, 2021, at 8:01 a. m. She was born on July 10, 1953, in Du Bois, PA, the daughter to her late parents; Gerald C. and Jacqueline (Mayes) Conklin. Gail was a 1971 graduate of East Palestine High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at Muskingham College in Chemistry, Biology, Geology, and Psychology. She took Education courses at Youngstown State University and Kent State University. Gail attended the University of Akron School of Law, receiving her Juris Doctorate Degree in 1989. She taught classes at the Columbiana County Jail Complex near Lisbon, was a Corporate Auditor for General Mills, and worked in the surgery department at Salem Community Hospital. She was of the Episcopal faith. Growing up, Gail was a Girl Scout which gave her an appreciation for the outdoors which is where she discovered her fondness for backpacking and camping. She could often be found tending her plants in her organic garden. Gail was an avid reader and her favorite genera was history or science fiction literature. Her love of learning found her often with a book in her hand or taking classes, which was one of her favorite ways to spent the winter months. In her spare time, Gail enjoyed stitching and creating textile art. Gail is survived by a sister; Melissa (Leonard) Arthur of Wellsville, OH, aunt; Marlene Trois of Lansdale, PA., Cousin; Maria Trois, April Paukner and Daniel Lewis; niece and nephew. In addition to her parents, Gail is preceded in death by her sister; Dawn A. Cooper.

Marjorie Ellen (Kedigh) Beal, 82, of Uhrichsville passed away Monday, October 11, 2021 at her home. She was born October 21, 1938 in Post Boy to the late Blanche (Kedigh) Hill. Marjorie received her teaching certificate from Otterbein College, her BA from Muskingum College and her MA from Ashland College. Marjorie retired after teaching many years at Uhrichsville and Indian Valley Schools. In retirement, she tutored at St. Mary's School and also worked in the Schoenbrunn Gift Shop. Marjorie was an avid reader, dedicated dandelion killer, noted cat lady and perpetual househunter. On April 8, 1962, Marjorie married Avonzo Beal who passed away on February 21, 1987. Marjorie is survived by her children, Von (Alma) Beal of Richwood, Rhonda (Chris) Hall of Marysville, Vince (Kelly) Beal of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Jessica (Jeremiah) Workman, Sarah (Lee) Christoffers, Kyle and Bryn Ladner, Corey Beal, Derek (Makana) Beal and Mathew Hall; great-grandchildren, Devon and Delaney Workman; her sister, Roberta (William) Iler of Minerva, her brother-in-law, Raymond (Shirley) Beal of Canton. In addition to her mother and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Roger (Barbara) Kedigh.

In sure and certain hope of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, Brenin L. Hill died on December 1, 2021. He was born in Marysville, Ohio, on January 16, 1952, to Harold Allen and Jayne Clara (Andrews) Hill, who preceded him in death. His infant brother Craig and brother-in-law, Patrick Cronin, also preceded him in death. Brenin graduated from Marysville High School in 1970 and Muskingum College in 1975. He played football in both high school and college and pursued athletic endeavors all of his life. He loved to play golf and to fish, and he shared those passions with his family. He was a great servant of the Lord who was always ready to serve the church in whatever way he could. He was a long-time member of Central Christian Church. Brenin demonstrated his faith throughout his adult life in many ways. He was a Deacon, Sunday school and Pioneer Club teacher, a part of the sound and light crew for Sunday services, church programs and holiday celebrations, and always a helper on the clean-up committee after events. Anytime someone needed help building something or tearing something down, he could be found leading or helping the crew. Brenin conceived, directed, and cooked the Wednesday night suppers at Central Christian. Right up until the week of his death, his strong desire to serve had him mowing, weeding, and doing lawn work for his children's homes, even when he struggled to do much else. With God's help and unceasing assistance and care from Polly, Brenin courageously fought Parkinson's disease every step of the way for over 20 years. Strength of will and mind commanded his body to get up again and again. A committed and faithful team, they ran the race together. Brenin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Polly Parrott Hill; son, Benjamin Hill; daughter, Adrienne Hill Williams (Dustin); son, Peter Hill (Corie Ackroyd); and grandsons, Dylan and Carter Williams. Also surviving are his twin sister, Brenda Cronin, sister, Linda Schrock (William), and 20 nieces and nephews and their families.

Mary Beth Christman, 69, passed away on September 15, 2022. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 8, 1952 and was raised in London, Ohio. Mary Beth attended both Muskingum College and Ohio State University before earning her degree from Ohio University. Mary Beth devoted her life to raising her family. She had an artistic side and enjoyed making crafts for her home and others. She struggled with health issues for a number of years and is thankfully now at peace, reunited with her parents, Thomas and Winona Slattery. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jennifer Christman and Julia Christman; sister, Diedra Lenhart; aunt, Helen Norris; and several grandchildren and extended relatives.

She struggled with health issues for a number of years and is thankfully now at peace, reunited with her parents, Thomas and Winona Slattery. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Jennifer Christman and Julia Christman; sister, Diedra Lenhart; aunt, Helen Norris; and several grandchildren and extended relatives. 

Mary Shackleton Demling, 69, passed away on September 25th, 2022, surrounded by family, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mary was the daughter of Allen and Rachel Shackleton. Her parents instilled in her a strong sense of family, a love of the outdoors, sports, and education. Mary attended Harriton High School in Rosemont, PA, and received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Muskingum University in New Concord, OH, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Theta sorority. It was at Muskingum her life changed forever when she met John Demling in a chance encounter by the school pond. The couple were married 47 years at the time of her passing. After graduating college Mary moved to Glen Ellyn, IL to be closer to John. Here she began her career in education, teaching 2nd graders at Palisades Elementary School. When she became pregnant with her first son, Allen, she decided to take a leave from teaching to raise him, much to the sorrow of her students. Son Morgan and daughter Kara followed, and the family settled into the home Mary would spend the rest of her life in raising and educating her three children. When the kids grew up, moved out and graduated college, Mary returned to teaching, this time at Pilgrim Place and Rainbow Place preschool, finding great joy in helping to shape the early lives of her students. Mary had a large personality that made it almost impossible to ignore. She never met a stranger that she couldn't chat with, and she could make sure there would never be a lull in conversation. This infectious spirit led to many lifelong friendships that culminated in book groups, investing clubs, game nights, group travels, and more. Mary's love of education extended into her philanthropic endeavors, when she joined PEO, an organization dedicated to providing women with both financial and moral support to attend higher education. Besides the ability to help other women, PEO also led to many lifelong friendships that Mary kept up for decades. Mary kept herself busy with many personal pursuits and hobbies. She stayed active by walking, often with her dachshund Dolly in tow (and sometimes even pushed in a stroller). Her favorite spots were Lake Ellyn, Panfish Park, and the Morton Arboretum. In addition, she was a voracious reader, borrowing upwards of 5 books at a time from the library, often sending her favorites to her children to read. She was often glued to the TV when the Bears, Bulls, Cubs, or any of her children's alma maters played. One of her most joyous moments was the Chicago Cubs World Series win in 2016, propelling her into a full on dance of joy. Later in life Mary found great comfort in attending to her gardens and decorating her house as the seasons changed. Most of all Mary loved being with her family. Whether spring break trips with her grandkids, summer trips to their Wisconsin cottage, or Christmas with the extended family, nothing brought more joy to her than being with loved ones. Mary is survived by her husband, John W. Demling; son, Allen Demling; son, Morgan Demling and wife, Kelly Nesler; daughter, Kara Demling; grandchildren, Miah Nesler, Logan Holmes and Sam Demling; sister, Kay (Bill) Britton; and brother, Jim (Lynne) Shackleton; brother-in-law, Gordon Demling; and 9 nieces and nephews and their children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Allen Roy Shackleton and Rachel Harris Shackleton; her sister, Ann Harris Shackleton Cook.

Pamela Kodey passed away March 28 after battling cancer for almost 15 years. She was born in North Olmsted, Ohio to Raymond and Betty Kodey. She graduated from North Olmsted High school where she played in the marching band and participated in sports. She then attended Muskingum College where she obtained a BA degree. She became a travel agent where she indulged her love of travel. During this time Pam joined the police department as an auxiliary police officer. Later she moved to Las Vegas where she assisted her brother Wayne as the office manager of his camera shop. Through her working careers Pam found time for sports. She participated in soccer and softball leagues as well as paddling a Dragon boat as part of a team of cancer survivors. Pam was active at John Knox Presbyterian church in North Olmsted and Grace Presbyterian in Las Vegas. She played in the bell choirs of both churches. She participated in cancer survivor support groups at The Caring Place in Las Vegas and at Grace Presbyterian church. Pam was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister Beth. She is survived by he brother Wayne and his wife Geri Kodey.

DOUGLAS B. "Max" VAUGHAN from North Olmsted, alumnus of Bay Village High School and Muskingum College, died at the age of 69 Sunday, June 11, joining his son Brett. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Carol, his daughter Kate Vaughan, his son-in-law Bill Ward, and grandchildren Braeden and Emma. He is remembered by all who knew him as one of the kindesst and loving of people. Always hungry for adventure, thoughtful, engaging, and open, he will be greatly missed.

Debra Lynn (Claypool) Jones, age 71, of Newark, passed away on December 1, 2024. She was born April 10, 1953 in Topeka, Kansas to the late Ronald H. and Joann (Williamson) Claypool. Debbie graduated from Heath High School in 1971. She continued her education at Muskingum University to receive Bachelors in Psychology and earned a Masters Degree in School Counseling from The Ohio State University. She was an educator who taught in Heath City Schools, North Fork Schools and Newark City Schools, and also served as school guidance counselor. Debbie cherished her time as a teacher inspiring her students to do their best. Part of Debbie's passion for education was the joy she found in working with other caring professionals. Debbie was member of St. John's United Church of Christ and loved The OSU sports teams, especially football and basketball. She was dedicated wife and mother. She married, Lawrence J. Jones, on June 30, 1978 and together they had two children, Evan and Dorothy. Family and friends were very important to Debbie. She had some of the best friends who showed what true friendship can be as they supported her throughout life and through her battles with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Larry; a son, Evan (Andrea "Andy") Jones; three grandchildren, Duke, Jackson and Soma; three brothers, Scott (Joan Mumaw) Claypool, David (Shirley) Claypool and Chris (Beth) Claypool; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy (1987)
