The 18-credit minor introduces students to occupational science and occupational therapy through coursework focused on topics such as cognitive health and wellness, sensory function across the lifespan, occupational analysis, clinical reasoning, and experiences in occupational therapy.

For Muskingum students considering a career as an occupational therapist, the Occupational Science minor provides an opportunity to complete courses used as prerequisites for Muskingum’s Alternative Pathway to the Master of Occupational Therapy program as part of their undergraduate education. Completing these courses during your bachelor’s degree can help you prepare for the next step toward graduate study without waiting to complete the prerequisite sequence after graduation.

The minor includes six online courses completed during the junior and senior years.

Junior Year

• OCSC 351: Occupational Science (3 credits) — Fall 2
• OCSC 453: Elder Cognitive Health & Wellness (3 credits) — Spring 1
• OCSC 455: Sensory Function Across the Lifespan (3 credits) — Spring 2

Senior Year

• OCSC 415: Introduction to Occupational Therapy (3 credits) — Fall 1
• OCSC 425: Occupational Analysis and Clinical Reasoning (3 credits) — Spring 1
• OCSC 475: Experiences in Occupational Therapy (3 credits) — Spring 2

Preparing for Muskingum’s Master of Occupational Therapy Program

Students planning to pursue Muskingum’s Alternative Pathway to the Master of Occupational Therapy program submit their application during the summer between their junior and senior years.

Students interested in the Occupational Science minor or the pathway to graduate study in occupational therapy should work with their undergraduate advisor and Muskingum’s Pre-MOT Advisor to plan their coursework and next steps.
