Hook Your Books FAQ

Hook Your Books Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hook Your Books program?

Hook Your Books is a course materials delivery program that provides free course materials to all traditional undergraduate students and ensures they have their required course materials on the first day of class. Course materials are loaned to students for the semester and must be returned at the end of term.

How does it work?

  • Register for your classes and the bookstore will start preparing your course materials
  • Before classes start, you will receive an email from notifications@materials.bncollege.com instructing you to select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or shipped directly to you)
  • If you miss the email, you can go to the bookstore webpage and click on “Reserve My Books”
  • An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships
  • Digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Blackboard

How do I enroll in the program?

All traditional undergraduate students will be automatically enrolled in the Hook Your Books program. Students do not need to do anything else to enroll.

What is included in the program?

The program provides all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital textbook versions. While textbooks must be returned at the end of the term, students can keep their lab manuals.

What is excluded from the program?

The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as art supplies, lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits or nursing kits. Textbooks that are recommended, but not required, are not included.

What if I want a hard copy of the textbook if it is provided to me in digital format?

The bookstore would be able to special order a physical copy of the textbook; however, the student must pay for the textbook.

Can I write in my textbooks?

All course materials can be written in and highlighted. There cannot be any water damage to textbooks.

When are my textbooks due back to the bookstore?

The deadline to return all loaned textbooks is the last day of finals. Students will receive email reminders about the deadline to their email address.

Can I buy my textbook?

Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase textbooks at a reduced rate during the return period.

Do I need to return books if they are used for more than one semester?

Yes, you will still be required to return these textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester for the next course.

What happens if I never verify my order?

Students will receive emails from the bookstore to remind them to make their delivery selection and verify their order. The deadline to make their selection is when the add/drop period ends.

What if I drop a class?

You may return the book to the bookstore on the same terms and timelines currently in place. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks/codes so that you have what you need.
