Philip C. Godfrey, Class of 1968

Philip C. Godfrey, age 79, of Donation Rd., Hempfield Twp., Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, June 20, 2026, in his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Sharon on December 20, 1946 to John C. and Martha J. (Young) Godfrey. Phil was a 1964 graduate of West Middlesex High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at Muskingum University. Since 1972, he owned and operated Phil Godfrey Ford of Greenville.

Phil was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. He was a three-time past president of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce and previously served on the Board of Directors of Greenville Savings Bank. Phil coached in the Greenville Little League system for 13 years and was a longtime supporter of the Greenville Heritage Days Super Cruise and Strayhaven Animal Shelter. He loved taking drives in his 1960 Ford Thunderbird “Old Green” and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. Phil enjoyed supporting his grandchildren at their athletic events and taking family vacations to the beach.

On June 28, 1969, he married the former Viola A. Jones: she survives.

In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by a son, Steven (Nicole) Godfrey of Greenville; a sister, Christine (Gary) Mitcheltree of Effingham, SC; and two grandchildren, Marissa Godfrey and Colton Godfrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
