Hazel Ault Blanchard, Class of 1960

Hazel Louise (Ault) Blanchard, 85 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday April 1, 2024. Hazel was born October 29, 1938, in Bellaire, Ohio, the daughter of the late Henry Hewetson Jr. and Mary Ida (Long) Ault, and she was named after a beloved aunt, Hazel Knox. Hazel worked as a guidance counselor in Cochranton, PA, Southwestern City Schools near Columbus, OH, and Piqua High School, OH. Later at East Elementary School in Greenville, she began the library and media center as a librarian and helped in the school's office during the lunch hours for more than 20 years. Hazel loved to read aloud to the students who attended East School. Hazel was a graduate of Muskingum College and then received her master's degree from Ohio University. She was a founding member of the F.I.S.H. organization and volunteered and housed the food pantry for numerous years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church where she sang in the chancel church choir. The family is very musically inclined, and Hazel played the piano and encouraged her daughters to play too. She and her husband, Leo or "Buzz" loved spending time with family and attended most of their daughters' and grandchildren's music and sports activities. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents. Hazel is survived by her husband Leo Thomas "Buzz" Blanchard of Greenville whom she married August 20, 1966 at the St. Teresa Catholic Church in Covington, Ohio; she is also survived by her children and spouse, Mary Louise Neels, and Lori Ann Johnson (Tim); her grandchildren, Theodore Neels Jr. "T.J.", Katherine Neels, Trevor Johnson, Kara Johnson (Eli) Couchman, Riley Johnson, and Kylie Johnson; her great grandchildren, Milo and Willow Couchman; and her brother and sister-in-law, Henry Hewetson and Linda (Eaton) Ault.
