Josh Doerschuk, ’09, left Muskingum with a major in digital media design. Following graduation, he taught English in Jeonju, South Korea for a year. He also traveled all over Korea and spent time in China and Japan.
Upon returning to the States, Doerschuk took an entry-level position at Diebold Nixdorf, the world’s largest banking equipment manufacturer. He worked his way up to Project Manager, and has now served as a Project Manager for six years at three different companies. Following his stint at Diebold Nixdorf, he worked as team lead for the project management team at CrossChx Inc., a healthcare technology start-up in Columbus, Ohio. Doerschuk now works for Stanley Black and Decker Security as the National Account Project Manager in charge of installation of security systems for Marathon oil refineries and terminals across the Northeast United States.
Doerschuk says, “Muskingum aided my success in more ways than I can count but the most prominent way was how well-rounded my education was. With a Liberal Arts education I was able to head in to the world with knowledge in numerous areas and make myself versatile in almost any field.”
As a student, Doerschuk worked at the radio and TV stations on campus. He worked as Program Manager as a student – a role that he now views as the beginning of his career as a Project Manager. He learned how to organize, communicate effectively and lead teams to create campus-wide events.
Doerschuk advises seniors that are about to launch into the world that “Your idea of a dream career can and most likely will change so get your foot in the door and work hard until you find something you love. It took me 3 years to fall in to project management and hard work at every level in an organization always pays off.”
