When Muskingum University students return to campus, a new smart phone tool will serve as their “one-stop shop” for their personal safety.

The AppArmor tool, customized for the University, will let students and employees take control of their personal safety through multiple features. During a late-night walk home, for example, users will be able to connect remotely with a friend or family member to track their location in real-time.
While using the app, students will have a quick connection to Muskingum’s 24-hour University Police Department should they need assistance, and the app will guide police officers to the user’s location.

Through the app, users will also be able to access emergency management plans, receive safety alerts from campus officials, and utilize online forms to report crime tips, acts of discrimination, or concerns about an individual’s mental health status.

Muskingum’s implementation of the AppArmor tool is the result of a shared effort among the Office of Equity, Compliance and Risk Management, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University Police Department. The University is committed to providing a safe environment conducive to the learning process.
