Kayla Wilkerson serves in multiple leadership roles on campus, welcoming new Muskies to the community and collaborating across campus to help enhance academic success, involvement, and leadership opportunities for her fellow students. She was one of only 13 students attending Ohio universities to be awarded a national Newman Civic Fellowship, a highly-selective program sponsored by Campus Compact to provide training and resources for the next generation of public problem solvers.
As part of the fellowship, Kayla will attend a national leadership conference in fall 2018 for Newman awardees. Kayla is headed toward an elementary teaching career and will be interning throughout her senior year in a first-grade classroom in the Cambridge City School District.
“I grew up in a military family and lived in many different places. From my very first visit to the Muskingum campus it felt like I had found my home. The small class sizes allow for close personal connections, and those relationships have helped me to mature and develop as a person. Muskies are driven and willing to be problem-solvers and to work together for the good of everyone.”
