Online Academic Support for Student Success

Even though our students are away from campus, the services they rely on to help support their academic success are available remotely.

Dr. Shelley Amstutz-Szalay, Dean of Student Educational Services, notes that the campus-wide use of Microsoft Office 365 as a common framework for completing coursework, video conferencing, and remote file access and file sharing, is tremendously beneficial for supporting student success.

She shared the following highlights of services which are being provided remotely:

  • The Writing Center is now online.  Student tutors will use a combination of email and Microsoft Teams video conferences to assist their fellow students who request a Writing Center appointment.
  • Students may also still request and receive peer tutoring help in many subjects. Tutoring sessions will occur electronically through a variety of channels.
  • The Muskingum University librarians are reachable through their Chat function on the library’s webpage during regular business hours.
  • A special email address studenthelp@muskingum.edu has been set up for students to reach out for help with any aspect of their learning. Monitored by staff from several different University divisions, questions are answered quickly, often within minutes.
  • Registration for Fall 2020 classes took place as scheduled on a remote basis, with advisors and their students connecting through emails, phone calls, and video chats.
