Trevor Basham graduated as one of the first petroleum geology majors from Muskingum University. The New Concord native says he has “been around Muskingum my whole life”; he attended preschool at Muskingum!
In the summer of 2016, Trevor participated in the Muskie Fellows program on campus; he worked with Dr. Stephen Van Horn, Professor of Geology, using a computer program to create maps showing landslide susceptibility and probability in Muskingum County. His work extended to his senior research project and he presented his findings at the National Geological Society of America Conference in Baltimore, Maryland that fall.
Trevor, a commuter student, said that getting involved on campus was harder since he was not a resident, but he asserts, “You just have to put the effort into it.” Although he never anticipated it, Trevor joined a fraternity during his time at Muskingum. He is a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and was an officer for the club. He was also a member of the Geology Club and joined the ranks of Omicron Delta Kappa, an academic honorary on campus.
Following graduation, Trevor plans to pursue a master’s degree in geology. His ultimate goal is to work as an exploration geologist or a production geologist in the petroleum industry.
