Senior Katie Shamel spent the summer playing with the USA Women’s Lacrosse team in Europe. Shamel joined the team as a goalie and played in the Berlin Open and the Prague Cup. In both tournaments, the team took second place to the Czech National Team.
Shamel, who is an athletic training major rom Tuscarawas, Ohio, had never even played lacrosse until she started college at Muskingum and decided to join the team. After she finished second in the Ohio Athletic Conference for saves for two seasons, her coach nominated her to join the USA Women’s Lacrosse team.
Shamel says, “I never anticipated playing lacrosse […] but stepping out of my comfort zone has let me experience some amazing things.”
In addition to playing lacrosse, Shamel is the Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) secretary, the Athletic Training Club vice president and a member of the Chi Alpha Nu sorority.
