Jacob Morris, a 2012 graduate from Groveport, Ohio, majored in Special Education and Physical Education while at Muskingum. Multiple factors played into his decision to attend Muskingum, including the reputation of the Education Department, the beauty of the campus and the opportunity to continue playing soccer.
Upon graduating, Morris wanted to teach abroad in Europe, but found it difficult to secure a job as a non-EU citizen. After substituting in the Columbus area for a while, he broadened his search to Asia, a location that had not initially interested him.
Morris landed a job teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in Incheon, South Korea. He worked there for two years before deciding to pursue a job in his field of study, Special Education. He found an international school that was looking for an Intervention Specialist, applied, interviewed and landed the position. He started working at Cheongna Dalton School in January 2016 with the goal of implementing a Special Education Department.
Morris had two study abroad experiences at Muskingum (both with former teammate Timothy Knight) that ignited his desire to travel. First, he went on a service learning trip with the late Coach Donna Newberry. Of that experience he says, “That trip alone changed my life and showed me all there is to experience and learn about the world. I wouldn't be where I am without it.” The second trip was to Australia and New Zealand.
Morris adds that “Managing soccer, education, and personal experiences prepared me for life and helped me realize the potential lying ahead of me if I put in the time and effort.”
