Graduate Assistant - Residence Life
Muskingum University invites applications for a Graduate Assistant for Residence Life. The Graduate Assistant for Residence Life will assist with the management of on-campus residential facilities, supervision of Resident Assistants, Resident Assistant staffing and training, and other functions within Residence Life. The Graduate Assistant is expected to help create a positive, engaging, and safe residential environment for all students.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with management of a residential area of 100-200 residential students, in a variety of housing options, including all of the responsibilities required therein
- Communicate behavioral expectations, facilitate conflict resolution, conduct roommate mediations, and respond to certain crisis situations
- Establish a professional presence and facilitate positive community development in residential areas, know area residents and their issues/needs, and maintain availability in the residence halls and in the main Student Life Office
- Coordinate delivery of developmental, educational, and social programming in the residential areas
- Serve on Student Affairs professional staff all campus duty rotation

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Acceptance into a Muskingum University Graduate Program.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build relationships with students from a variety of identities and life experiences
- Ability to multi-task and engage in the gathering, examination and basic analysis of information to arrive at solutions or recommendations and/or take appropriate action
- Ability to provide supervision to student workers that fosters development and responsibility
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor during challenging situations
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to see, hear, speak, stand, walk stoop, or bend; frequently lift, carry, and/or push and pull up to 20 pounds; walk up and down flights or stairs in buildings; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essentials functions.
- Live in an apartment within a residence hall
