Graduate Assistant - Alumni Engagement

Muskingum University invites applications for a Graduate Assistant for Alumni Engagement. This position supports the Office of Alumni Engagement in planning, coordinating, and executing alumni programs and events throughout the academic year.  The Graduate Assistant will assist in maintaining and strengthening connections between alumni and the University through various initiatives including Homecoming, regional events, the Day of Giving, and other engagement activities. The Graduate Assistant will gain valuable experience in higher education advancement, event planning, communications, and database management while working closely with the Alumni Engagement team. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Event Planning and Coordination – 20% 

  • Support the planning and execution of major alumni events including Homecoming, Khanna events, Campus Connection Visits, and regional gatherings 
  • Assist with registration processes, coordinate venue logistics, arrange catering, and prepare materials for events 
  • Draft schedules, seating charts, and logistical plans to ensure smooth event operations 
  • Assist with service initiatives and scholarship programs involving alumni and students 

Communications and Social Media – 40% 

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of social media strategies for alumni engagement across all platforms 
  • Assist in content development, including alumni spotlights, event promotions, and post-event recaps 
  • Draft feature stories and bios for alumni award winners and speakers 
  • Support communication strategies for fundraising initiatives, including Day of Giving, Reunion Giving Challenge, and the Magnus Society 

Alumni Relations and Outreach – 30% 

  • Assist with alumni storytelling initiatives to highlight graduate accomplishments 
  • Help organize outreach efforts for GratiTuesday and other alumni engagement campaigns 
  • Contribute to the development of toolkits and resources for alumni events and service activities 
  • Help facilitate connections between current students and alumni through various programs 

Database Management and Administrative Support – 10% 

  • Receive training in Slate CRM system to independently create forms and communications 
  • Assist with the maintenance of accurate records of alumni engagement activities and participation 
  • Assist with list management and data organization for outreach initiatives 
  • Track project timelines and ensure deadlines are met for seasonal initiatives

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree required; must be enrolled in a graduate program at Muskingum University 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication. 
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and content creation 
  • Experience with or willingness to learn database systems (specifically Slate CRM) 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Event planning experience preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and solve problems 
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, anticipate workflow, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends for events as needed
