Executive Director of Student Wellness Services

Muskingum University invites applications for the newly created position of Executive Director of Student Wellness Services.  With an emphasis on creativity and resourcefulness, the successful candidate will assess and identify student needs and develop strategic plans to promote and advance student wellness.  The Executive Director will provide day-to-day management of the Counseling Center, including provision of clinical supervision and direct services to a limited caseload of students, and administrative oversight of the Student Health Center and all contracted providers. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise the Student Health Center and Counseling Center, including oversight and coordination of any third-party solutions used to deliver services to students. 

  • Provide oversight and evaluation of the Counseling Center’s clinical activities and administrative protocols in accordance with APA ethical principles and professional best practices. 

  • Serve as a direct care provider of counseling services to student-patients in individual or group sessions. 

  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of wellness outreach to students and the campus community through programming, events, presentations, and documentation of wellness information. 

  • Coordinate crisis intervention and emergency coverage 24/7 for students and support to on call professional and student staff.  Conduct crisis debriefings and workshops for campus community in response to tragic events. 

  • Work in close collaboration with campus partners, including Student Life professionals, Academic Affairs professionals, Center for Teaching and Learning staff, and Human Resources to develop an integrative approach to student wellness, including campus awareness, employee professional development, and prevention approaches.   

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student mental health needs and student learning outcomes relating to wellness 

  • Examine the experiences of culturally diverse students with respect to availability and quality of care; recommend solutions to better meet the needs of diverse student populations. 

  • Manage Counseling Services budgets, staffing, operations, record management and record retention and oversee provision of the same within the Student Health Center. 

  • Maintain data on student services and communicate through monthly summaries, annual program reports, and ad hoc reports as requested. 

  • Assess, formulate, and administer departmental policies and procedures to insure efficient operation of Counseling Services and delivery of services; oversee Student Health Center’s work in the same areas. 

  • Participate in professional training to develop knowledge and expertise to maintain compliance and identify psychological trends impacting college campuses. 

  • Ensure that the Wellness Services are represented at campus-wide programs including Admission Open Houses and New Student and Parent Orientations. 

  • Meet regularly with the providers of student health services for supervision of all aspects of the Health Center. 

  • Serve on the Behavioral Assessment/Intervention Team.  

  • Seek and/or participate in application and administration of grants around areas involving student physical health, mental health, and general wellness.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Master’s degree in counseling or psychology-related field required; doctoral degree preferred.  

  • Five years counseling experience with at least two years of administrative experience in higher education or mental health setting preferred. 

  • Must have current LPCC, LISW, or Psychology licensure with supervisory designation by the State of Ohio to provide clinical supervision with at least two years of clinical supervision experience preferred.   

  • Strong problem identification/solving skills, as well as program planning/development and interpersonal skills. 

  • Commitment to educating and supporting a diverse student, faculty, and staff population, and to striving for inclusive excellence in all aspects of program delivery. 

  • Excellent written and verbal skills. 

  • Experience in data-based approaches to assessment of student learning outcomes related to wellness programming. 

  • Ability to work scheduled evening and weekend availability on campus and to respond to urgent situations by phone or email.
