Associate Vice President for Student Affairs

Muskingum University is seeking a dynamic leader who can help achieve the vision of an integrated educational experience for all students bridging academic and student affairs.   Working closely with, and reporting to the Provost, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs will provide strategic management of all aspects of the Student Affairs Division.  Core responsibilities include the recruitment and supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students and Student Affairs Directors in carrying out their duties, while inspiring their growth and increased impact on students.  Functional areas within student affairs at Muskingum University include residence life, student conduct, leadership and engagement, diversity, access and inclusion, student governance, fraternity and sorority communities, intramurals and student activities, counseling and health and wellness services, and student life chaplaincy.  The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with academic, athletics, the Title IX Coordinator, admissions and other offices to create an intentional learning community that supports Muskingum University’s institution-wide student learning outcomes and commitment to inclusive excellence. 


SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:
•    Doctoral degree in counseling, student personnel, higher education administration, or related field preferred; master’s degree is required.
•    Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in Student Affairs leadership roles
•    Excellent written and verbal skills
•    Creativity, flexibility, persistence, and humor 
•    Demonstrated ability to engage students and motivate them to strive for growth
•    Passion for supporting undergraduate education in a liberal arts institution 
•    Evidence of strong and respectful collaborative working relationship with other administrators, faculty, staff, and community members
•    Significant experience in program development and evaluation, staff supervision, and strategic planning 
•    Skilled in the use of data-based decision-making models and experienced in assessment of student outcomes from co-curricular learning opportunities
•    Fluent with office software and data analysis tools
•    Weekend and evening work are vital to the success of this position
 

ABOUT THE INSTITUTION:
Muskingum University, a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts tradition, is located seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in the village of New Concord.  Founded in 1837, the university's total undergraduate, graduate, and adult-learner student population is approximately 3,000.  Muskingum University’s residential campus houses approximately 850 students, or 70% of the undergraduate population.    Residential and commuter students are engaged in a diverse array of social and academic organizations, including a vibrant Greek community, Black Student Union, gaming, and service and leadership societies.   Nearly 50% of the student population is involved in athletics, including 21 NCAA Division III teams, intramurals, and a newly launched eSports team.
