Assistant Professor of Special Education

The Department of Education at Muskingum University invites applications for a full time tenure-track faculty position in Education at the Assistant Professor level, beginning with the fall semester of 2019. The position requires teaching in the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs, fieldwork supervision, advising of licensure candidates, conducting research in the field of education, and actively engaging in university and community service.  Teaching responsibilities will include courses with content focus in special education, assessment, language arts and other topics supporting the education curriculum.  Advising the Muskingum student chapter for the Council of Exception Children (CEC) club and sponsoring annual outreach events with local school districts and their students with disabilities is an opportunity to connect with the broader community.

The mission of the Muskingum University’s undergraduate and graduate initial teacher preparation program is to develop teacher-leaders who encourage, equip, and empower all students.  We are committed to preparing teachers and offering professional learning that appreciates the diversity in our changing world and honors the gifts of every individual.  The Muskingum University Educator Preparation Program continues to develop dual licensure avenues and creatively incorporate approaches to teach all children through our integrated curriculum.  

Applicants must have doctoral level preparation in teaching students with disabilities, plus teaching experience. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, with the understanding that the doctoral degree will be completed within one year.  Strong preference will be given to those who hold a current teaching/administrator license in K-12 special education (intervention specialist) and/or educational leadership.  Consideration will also be given to applicants with background and experience across grade levels and activities aligned to the special needs community.
