Academic Fieldwork Coordinator

Muskingum University invites applications for a full-time Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (“AFWC”).  The AFWC is specifically responsible for the Master of Occupational Therapy program’s compliance with the fieldwork requirements of the Accreditation Standards for a Master’s-Degree Level Educational Program for the Occupational Therapist (Standards) section C.1.0. The AFWC will work with the MOT program director and faculty to identify, orient, assess, and evaluate fieldwork sites in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of the program and students.  In addition to fieldwork coordination, the AFWC will have teaching responsibilities. The AFWC’s responsibilities will be evenly divided (50/50) between teaching and fieldwork management.

Members of the Muskingum faculty are expected to use creative and evidence-based approaches that both engage and challenge students toward the objective of academic success.  Candidates will be expected to have documented expertise in their area of teaching and management, knowledge of content delivery, ability to maintain a professional development plan, and the ability to continue to improve or refine their own skills. 

The successful candidate will begin work in January 2023.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Fieldwork Management

  • Oversee the fieldwork program, including communication with sites, training, and coordination of fieldwork sites by faculty.
  • Identify and recruit fieldwork sites.
  • Assess fieldwork educator qualifications.
  • Evaluate fieldwork sites.
  • Assign students to fieldwork sites.
  • Assign faculty to fieldwork sites.

Instruction

  • Develop course syllabi in accordance with policies and procedures of the program and University.
  • Present course material in a creative and effective manner.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of approaches.
  • Effectively manage the classroom, whether face-to-face or online.
  • Complete professional development to optimize knowledge for teaching responsibilities.
  • Follow a written plan for professional development according to the policies of the program.
  • Adhere to ACOTE standards.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to Muskingum University students, including those accepted into the MOT major
  • Assist with program recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Serves as a preceptor for MOT Students, as assigned.
  • Meets expectations required of Muskingum faculty as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and Muskingum’s Academic Policies and Procedures.

Supervision

  • Supervise students in the fieldwork environment.
  • Under direction of the MOT Program Director, may have limited supervision of faculty in fieldwork situations.
  • Assess and mentor fieldwork educators.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. 
  • Earned doctorate or enrollment in a doctoral program preferred.  Absent a doctoral degree, the candidate will be required to develop and follow a plan to earn a doctoral degree.
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of Ohio.
  • Three (3) years of experience with OT fieldwork processes preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred, with ability to deliver content, assess student learning, and manage face-to-face and virtual classrooms.
  • Experience with curriculum development, using instructional technology, and distance learning preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Proven record of building relationships with other organizations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
