Christian Education Student Opportunities

Internships
Muskingum students may arrange an internship with the Southeast Ohio Medical Center as a chaplain intern. Responsibilities include patient visitation, counseling with family members, and providing general pastoral care.

Students may also pursue internship opportunities in local churches, especially in the local Presbyterian and Methodist churches. Responsibilities include youth leadership, church school teaching, and participation in worship.

Research
Research is a common element in all religion courses, especially in upper-level courses, and involves contemporary theological journals such as Christianity Today and Christian Century, biblical commentaries, important theologians, and the sacred literature and thinkers of religions of the world. This work comes to fruition in the senior seminar research project, in which a student works closely with a faculty member to explore in depth a topic of her or his interest.

Employment
The religion department typically employs two or three students as student assistants, usually for light office work. Occasionally, students are able to work with professors in a more academic capacity.

Professional Activities
Students may submit papers to present at the annual meeting of the Ohio Academy of Religion and the Midwest Region of the Academy of Religion
