B.A. in Athletic Training (currently enrolled athletic training students)

Our Athletic Training program prepares students for careers in a variety of Athletic Training settings including traditional setting jobs at the college/university level, outreach clinics, public schools, or in many emerging settings like occupational/industrial settings, the fine arts, the military, and physician extenders.

Outcomes

Muskingum's Athletic Training program prepares you for careers in a variety of Athletic Training settings including the college/university level, outreach clinics, public schools, occupational/industrial environments, the fine arts, and professional rodeo.

Our Athletic Training graduates are also well-prepared to enter an advanced degree program in fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician's assistant, or other health-related professions.

Muskingum University is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) ), 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101.  The program has been placed on Probation as of February 11, 2020. 

The athletic training profession has moved the degree for athletic training from a bachelor’s to a master’s degree, effective in the summer of 2020. Muskingum University has decided to not pursue the degree transition. Therefore, the program has chosen to Voluntarily Withdraw its CAATE Accreditation effective December 31, 2023. Students enrolling after the fall of 2020 will not be accepted into the B.A. in Athletic Training program. 

Students enrolling at Muskingum after the fall of 2020 who are interested in becoming an athletic trainer are encouraged to consider the Exercise Science program to prepare them for applying to a Master of Athletic Training graduate program.

Muskingum University offers programs that lead to licensure or certification.  These programs prepare students for licensure or certification based on the requirements set by the State of Ohio.  Students who plan to seek licensure or certification in other states will need to contact that State Licensure Board for specific requirements.
