Department

Welcome to the Department of Physics & Engineering at Muskingum College.

The department offers majors in physics and engineering science and supports the binary and pre-engineering programs.  The department strives to employ students as tutors and assistants, offer on-site research and design experiences for students, expose students to the “real world” through guest speakers and field trips, assist students with securing summer research positions and internships, and assist students with their educational and career goals.

Use the links on the left-hand side of this page to learn more about our department. Please contact the department chair if you have any questions and/or would like to arrange a tour of our department.

The projected course offerings for the next two years are posted on the Course Descriptions page.

The Department of Physics and Engineering at Muskingum College invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level starting August 2008.  A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) is required.  A computational or materials oriented background is preferred as is an undergraduate engineering degree from an ABET/EAC accredited institution.  The successful candidate will help the department develop and support a new and jointly offered major in Engineering Science and prepare it for ABET/EAC accreditation. Experience with the ABET accreditation process will enhance candidates’ credentials. In addition to teaching departmental service courses, the successful candidate will be expected to team teach Introduction to Physics & Engineering, Materials Science, Principles of Design, Introduction to Senior Project, and Senior Project courses and teach Electronics and Optics/Electromagnetics OR Statics & Dynamics and Fluid Mechanics.  The successful candidate will also be expected to refine and implement a plan to incorporate design throughout the curriculum. Muskingum College, a comprehensive college with a strong liberal arts tradition, is located seventy miles east of Columbus in the village of New Concord, OH. Founded in 1837, the College today has 100 faculty and a traditional undergraduate enrollment of 1,600. The total undergraduate, graduate, and adult student population is approximately 2,200.
