Science Outreach and Education
Opportunities
The Chemistry Department at Muskingum College regularly engages in science outreach and education programs. The objective is to provide an entertaining and engaging inquiry based chemistry demonstration experience through which the children and adults can learn some fundamental scientific concepts. Information on upcoming opportunities for involvement will be posted as it becomes available.

Activities Since 2002:
The local American Chemical Society (ACS) section carried out two Cooking in Chemistry programs for the campus. The chemistry of preparing fudge and ice cream were demonstrated and discussed.
The Muskingum College ACS section performed a Chemistry Magic Show for a group of preschool age children from the College's Center for Child Development.
A group of kindergarten through fifth grade children were educated on "How to be a Chemistry Detective" through a show performed by members of ACS.
A "How to be a Chemistry Detective" was performed by members of ACS for children in the afterschool program at the Eastside Ministires in Zanesville, Ohio.
A Chemistry Magic show was performed for the after school program run by the College Drive Presbyterian Church in New Concord, Ohio.
Wonders of our World (WOW) is a science outreach and education program that was started at Ohio State University in 1999. Students and Faculty in the Science Division have expanded this program to Muskingum College. Volunteers from Muskingum will be going into classrooms in South Elementary in the nearby Cambridge School district to carry out hands-on activities with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. These volunteers will be working with the teachers to develop more entertaining, interactive, and effective methods of teaching science to elementary school children.
