The Muskingum College Center for Advancement of Learning has the opportunity to emphasize the development of lifelong learning skills through its commitment to a learning strategies philosophy. The professional staff of the center helps students develop strategies necessary for success in post-secondary course work. Equipping all students with the tools to know how to learn in a variety of contexts enhances the possibility for student success. (Dehne, 1990)
The Center for Advancement of Learning (CAL) at Muskingum College provides academic support to the student population through four programs:
PLUS Program which provides students identified as learning-disabled with individual and group learning strategies instruction embedded within course content.

Learning Strategies and Resources Program (LSR) which offers weekly strategy workshops, weekly personalized strategy instruction, and one-time sessions for any student who requests assistance or is considered academically at-risk.

English Support Program (ESP) which allows non-native speakers of English to begin their studies at Muskingum in a combined curriculum, with regular classes, individual tutorials, and English as Second Language courses.
