New sorority experiences first rush

Lambda Chi Omega, the latest addition to Muskingum's Greek Life, began its sorority for Christian women during the 2001-2002 school year.

The sisters of Lambda Chi have almost 20 members. This is the first year the club has been involved in the rush process. While pledges remain low this first year, they "plan on keeping a very positive and upbeat attitude for the future," sophomore member Carla Finney said.

As a Christian sorority, Lambda Chi Omega said it is compelled to be a ministry to the campus as well as to the surrounding community.

"From the very beginning God has been the driving force through the whole process," Finney said. "This is his sorority, and until we feel him leading us elsewhere, Lambda Chi will stay firmly rooted in its four principles of ministry, scholarship, spiritual development and sisterhood."

Lambda Chi Omega's preamble to its constitution describes the mission of the sorority: "Lambda Chi Omega is a sorority for Christian women to further develop their sisterhood. This sisterhood will work side by side with other Christian organizations to promote the common goal of ministry, but will also meet on a more spiritual and personal level as individual women that are bound together through Christ."

Though the impact on campus is not yet known, the sorority has already impacted Finney.

"We will never know the impact that our sorority will have on this campus, but it has sure been a blessing in my life," she said. "Not only have I met new people in our sorority, but I have also met others from Greek Life that I would not have known otherwise."

Junior Candice McMath designed the Lambda Chi Omega Web site. According to the site, "We the sisters of Lambda Chi Omega shall strive to be faithful and energetic Christian leaders and shall celebrate the ecumenical faith."
