Muskingum University will celebrate the inauguration of Dr. Susan S. Hasseler as its 21st president with a week of activities showcasing the talents and achievements of students beginning Sunday, April 2. The campus community, trustees, alumni and distinguished guests will gather for an academic procession and ceremony to install Dr. Hasseler at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7 in the University’s Anne C. Steele Center.

Susan S. Hasseler“It has been our great privilege to welcome Dr. Hasseler, a respected academic leader, teacher and scholar, to the University,” said Harold W. Burlingame, Chair of Muskingum’s Board of Trustees. “Since Dr. Hasseler joined us, she has immersed herself in our community both on and off campus, and repeatedly reaffirmed our belief that her vision and leadership will continue to advance our institution and our region alike.”

Prior to becoming Muskingum University’s 21st president on July 1, 2016, Dr. Hasseler served as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she led the development of a comprehensive first year program, an integrated student success center, a major science facility renovation, and multiple strategic hires. Dr. Hasseler holds a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education from Calvin College, an M.A. in Special Education from the University of South Dakota, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy. She is married to neuropsychologist Kenneth Hasseler, who also earned his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. They enjoy the visual and performing arts, athletics, hiking, exploring the architecture and geography of new places, and spending time with their son Jon and his wife Mallory, their daughter Kaitlin, and Mizha, their very friendly yellow lab.

“Inauguration week is a celebration of the extraordinary accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff. In addition, it provides a great opportunity to share our exciting vision for the future,” Dr. Hasseler said. “Ken and I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the campus, the community and alums from across the nation.
