Katie Ballard, Universidad Blas Pascal, Argentina, current Muskingum student

Studying abroad has been the best adventure of my life so far. Yes, it can be hard to leave family, friends, and the familiar for a while, but, as we say in Spanish, "vale la pena" - it´s worth it! It doesn´t matter if you´re not a foreign language major, and you don´t have to speak a foreign language fluently - or at all - to study abroad.
There are opportunities to study in English-speaking countries as well. College is the best time of your life to take this opportunity, because you will never be so young and free again. You will learn SO much about yourself, your background, your own home and country, and the people, culture, and country where you are studying. Take a chance and enjoy this truly once-in-a-lifetime experience NOW!

Ashley Gateless, Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, current Muskingum student

Studying in New Zealand is a unforgettable opportunity. It has given me a chance to embrace another part of the world; the experiences, the peoples, and the culture. It is a chance to understand who you are and what you wish to achieve in life.

Jocelyn Workman, Université du Sud Toulon-Var, France, current Muskingum student

I took the wonderful opportunity to study in Toulon, France, along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea! Life is amazing here! The pace is relaxed, even a bit too slow for me, but I am learning to adapt! Classes are not too hard, but anyone who goes through this will tell you, you learn way more out of class! The experience is one you can't get studying in the U.S.! You must be immersed in the culture! This is my first time overseas and I must say it is a shocking adventure, but overall great! There is so much history here, everywhere I go! I spend much of the time at the beach with friends from all over the world! The food is fresh and of high quality, from the open street markets to the fast food restaurants! I love it! I can't get enough!

Kathryn Korosa, Macquarie University, Australia, 2006 Muskingum graduate

Studying abroad in Australia was truly a life-changing event. Living there for six months, I learned to appreciate the unique culture of Australians while sharing with them my own culture. I found the most amazing cookies in the world there (Tim Tams) and truly fell in love with the sport of rugby. I hope that more students get to have an amazing experience such as my own, and get to eat a Tim Tam as well!

Jennica Magers, Universität Passau, Germany, 2006 Muskingum graduate

Like many other students, when I first came to Muskingum I was simply interested in completing a four-year degree. After taking my first German language course I realized that I couldn't give up the language and that I had to somehow further incorporate German into my studies.  Since that point of uncertainty I have declared majors in International Affairs and German, and spent my junior year studying abroad in Passau, Germany.   When people say the time they spent studying abroad was the most fulfilling experience they've ever had, it's not a lie.  I can honestly say that I loved every minute of living in Germany and experiencing a culture different than my own.  I met so many amazing people and experienced more than what can be described in words.  My language skills also improved immensely, and now I find that I have little trouble understanding German.  Anyone interested in pursuing studies in German should definitely take advantage of the opportunities offered at Muskingum.

Emily Snode, AustraLearn, Australia, 2006 Muskingum graduate

Australia, the land down under. I've learned so much and have met so many wonderful people. It is incredibly tempting to stay here (especially since the "real" world is waiting for me back home). Nothing is better than playing outside and calling is fieldwork and science. Don't get me wrong, I miss all of you bunches, but there is just
something about this place that just can’t be explained in words. Closest word that this thesaurus can give me is bliss: perfect untroubled happiness. That is what Australia is and what I have found in it. The laid back way of life, “no worries” and wonderful people have truly made this an unforgettable experience and have made me a more confident person. I have discovered what I want out of life and how much I am capable of.

Nandin Ganbold, Deggendorf University, Germany, 2005 Muskingum College graduate

After spending a year in Germany, I not only improved my German, but also got a chance to experience something completely new and different. My most memorable experience while studying abroad was traveling. I used school breaks to travel to cities such as Munich, Passau, Regensburg, Nuremberg, Dresden, Berlin, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Essen, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Vienna, Salzburg, and a couple of cities in the Czech Republic. Living in a different country allowed me to become friends with many interesting people, to learn how to behave in a different environment and to see things from different perspectives. Not only can you learn the language and experience fun stuff, but at the same time you can take courses that count toward your Muskingum degree. Last but not least, I can't leave out the cool parties and night life of Deggendorf. I would definitely recommend study abroad  to every student. It will probably be the most fun and  the coolest thing you have done yet.

Jad Johnson, Kansai Gaidai, Japan, 2004 Muskingum College graduate

My name is Jadwin Johnson and I am a graduate from Muskingum College from the class of 2004. When I was a student at Muskingum College, I made it my goal to study in at least another country while I was in college. While being at Muskingum, I was offered a large list of choices of places to go, see, study in, and explore. My first choice to study was at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan. I went to Japan without knowing any Japanese and also knowing very little about the country or its culture. But some things that I would love to say is that I WILL NEVER FORGET THE AWESOME EXPIRIENCE and THANK YOU TO MUSKINGUM COLLEGE AND ITS GREAT INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS DEPARTMENT AND STAFF! They even helped me gain something I thought I would never get while in college, prior to going to Japan, a scholarship, that paid for my school, my plane ticket, and it even gave me some 'settling in money.' Muskingum College's International Department is 'Top Notch!. The courage and knowledge I gained from my studies in Japan not only make want to see more of the world ( I went to study in Eastern Europe in the summer of 2003), I also use my Japanese language in the real world to help work with Japanese business people. I can never THANK YOU enough. I appreciate everything that you have done and I hope and wish more students continue to study abroad. It is a big world and Muskingum College will be a part of it.
