Admission Counselor

Muskingum University, a private liberal arts institution located in southeast Ohio, is seeking applicants to fill an Admission Counselor position.  The successful candidate will be accountable for meeting University-developed recruitment goals from a selected geographic territory, assist students with their transition to college, and maintain contact with prospective students through high school visits and college day/night programs. The counselor will also work directly with our Director of Diversity, Access, and Inclusion to recruit underrepresented populations and build partnerships with Access organizations regionally. This position requires conducting individual interviews with prospective students and their families. Frequent follow up with applicants required. Includes building relationships with high school counselors and reviewing application files to determine a student’s eligibility to enroll at Muskingum.

 

Other duties include assisting in the planning and implementation of office recruiting activities, on and off campus programs, scholarship days, and student telethons.

 

This is a full-time, 12 month contract position which reports to the Director of Admission.

 

Requirements include: Outgoing and sincere personality, ability to build relationships, and to adapt to new and changing situations. Interest in and experience with working with students from diverse backgrounds  and underrepresented populations. Willingness to work outside traditional hours. Expected to be creative and able to think critically while working through various issues. Knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to communicate in large group settings and personal interviews, and effectively manage time. Bachelor’s degree required. Experience preferred.
