Information Literacy
You may or may not be familiar with the term Information Literacy. The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) define information literacy as "the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information." You can learn more at the ACRL Information Literacy web site.

It is critical for Muskingum University students to:

  • know the nature and extent of needed information,
  • access information using a variety of techniques and tools,
  • evaluate the information found and determine its validity and reliability,
  • use the information found in the knowledge creation cycle, and
  • understand the ethical and legal aspects of information use in the 21st century.

Course Based Instruction
Students are introduced to course specific resources using a modified problem-based learning scenario. Course based instruction can happen in the Library or in any technology enabled classroom.

IDIS 120: Library Research Methods
The Library offers a 2-credit hour elective course every semester. The course's primary objective is the development of efficient information search and retrieval skills to enhance scholarly and personal research. Students will develop the skills necessary to use and evaluate print, periodical, government and electronic resources.
