International Orientation

There are two different International Orientations. For new students coming for the Fall Semester, they should attend the August Orientation. For new students coming in the Spring Semester, they should attend the January Orientation.

For new students, it is strongly encouraged that you attend orientation, look through the Incoming Student Page and the International Handbook, and ask any questions that you have!

Schedule may change! Check your welcome folder that you receive with your residence keys for the most updated schedule.

August Orientation

Monday, August 18th- Airport Shuttles, Training for Teaching Assistants
Tuesday, August 19tht- Airport Shuttles, Training for Teaching Assistants

Wednesday, August 20th- Orientation Begins

  • 9:30 Meet on Quad for group activities
  • 10:00 Campus Tour (Bring your payment for your student account.)
  • Lunch together in the dining hall
  • Meet at the International House for US Customs and Practices (and a surprise!)
  • Shopping at Wal-Mart
  • 5:00-6:30 Dining hall open for dinner

Thursday, August 21st- Orientation Continues

  • 9:00 Immigration for F-1 visa holders (Bring all immigration documents with you.)
  • 11:00 Academic Affairs and ESL- by Leigh Williamson and Meri Linn Emerson
  • 11:30 Being Successful Academically at Muskingum-by Dr. Alistair Hattingh
  • Lunch together in the dining hall
  • 1:30 Surviving the Shock- by Muskingum students
  • 2:30 Campus Safety- by Muskingum's Campus Police
  • 3:00 Computer and Networking Services for J-1s- by Ryan Harvey (free computer time for F-1s)
  • 3:30 Immigration for J-1 visa holders (Bring all immigration documents with you.)
  • 3:30 Computer and Networking Services for F-1s- by Ryan Harvey
  • 5:00-6:30pm Dining hall open for dinner
  • 7:00 Bowling with Host Families

Friday, August 22nd- Last day of Orientation

  • 9:00 Meet the Student Affairs Staff, TOC
  • 10:00 Melting Pot (insurance, driving, social security, etc.)
  • Lunch together in the dining hall
  • 1:30 Game Time! Let the competition begin.
  • 3:30 New Concord Scavenger Hunt

January Orientation

January 2009 International Orientation will take place on Friday, January 9th. There are usually only a few new international students in January so the orientation program is only one day. We will do most of the same things that are done in the August Orientation. The complete orientation schedule will be posted in December 2008.
