The Amazing Race: Muskingum Edition
If you like to watch The Amazing Race on CBS, imagine how much
fun you can have playing the Muskingum Edition? Sign up with your
three smartest and strongest friends in the Student Life Office
(TOC) between October 9-October 20, 2006. You must be one of the
first ten teams to turn in all your forms in order to compete.
Competitions are all on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm. Competition
dates are October 25, November 1, November 8, and November 15.
All members must be able to compete on all four evenings. Teams
must be made up of Muskingum College students only. Two teams
are eliminated each evening, with the last four teams competing
for the Grand Prize!
The
Grand Prize is a travel voucher for $150 for each of the four
members of the winning team! STA Travel is sponsoring the $600
in prizes!
We can't tell you any of the challenges for this year, but we
can tell you some of the exciting challenges from last year:
Ten teams began the 2005 Season of The Amazing Race: Muskingum
Edition. First, the teams had to move rice with chopsticks from
one bowl to the next. Once everyone on the team finished, they
ran to Kelley Lobby for a Road Block. In a Road Block, only one
team member is allowed to compete. This person was instructed
on how to write their name in Hindi and then he or she had to
write their name. At this point, teams could choose to compete
in a Fast Forward competition. The teams competing in the Fast
Forward had to sit Japanese-style for 20 minutes without moving.
The first team to complete the challenge went straight to the
Final Pit Stop. The teams that did not complete the Fast Forward
had to quickly run to the Mem/Moore Lobby for country identification.
After correctly placing the countries on the map, the students
moved to the football field for a Detour. In a Detour, each team
must decide which challenge they want to compete. Picking the
wrong challenge could slow the team down and have a drastic impact.
In this Detour, the students had to choose either to play cricket
against our best bowlers or to carry a bowl of fruit on their
head without touching it. Once everyone on the team completed
the challenge, the teams had a country/capital match competition
and then they moved on to the Final Pit Stop.
It was pretty intense last year as the top three teams moved
on to Day 2 of the competition. We had to eliminate the third
place team because they did not finish all the challenges, which
bumped the fourth place team, the Brown Team, into third and allowed
them to compete on the second day. The second day of competition
began with frustrations for the Red, Green, and Brown teams. They
each received thirty ping-pong balls with the name of a language
on each of the balls. Across the room sat six bowls with the word "Thank
you" written in different languages. The teams had to identify
which language the words were written in and place the correct
ping pong ball into the bowl. After fourty minutes of screaming
because they never learned Ibo, the teams moved onto the football
field for a soccer challenge. Each member of the team had to dribble
in a square, around the cones, and score a goal before the team
could progress to the next challenge. They moved up to the TOC
for flag identification and then to the Ulster House for a Road
Block. In this Road Block, someone from the team had to eat Tum
Yum Soup, a spicy Thai dish. The teams then raced to the Pit for
an egg relay. The final challenge was to find the once-popular
Spring on campus, a little-known fact to today's students. The
Brown Team finished all the challenges first and won the $100
travel voucher for each of the teammates.
