Undergraduate External Scholarships

Many students receive scholarship assistance through private organizations
which include schools, businesses, civic groups and churches. While most
sources of such awards are found in the student’s local community, some
are regional or even national in scope. We encourage students to seek out
such additional sources of assistance, and information is usually available
from high school counselors. Another source of such information can be
found on-line at www.fastweb.com. Awards received from private
sources in excess of $100 are required to be reported to Student Financial
Services, though in almost all cases such awards do not affect the gift
assistance previously awarded to students.

Adena Health Care Scholarship
Applications are available for all direct patient care fields of study with special eligibility criteria for certain healthcare career fields. For more information and an application go to www.adena.org The deadline is May 26, 2011 at 4pm with no exceptions.

AES Engineers Scholarship
AES is pleased to be able to continue providing scholarships to high school seniors or college students (regardless of courses being studied) who meet certain criteria. Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. Alpha Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma
will award a $500 grant to a graduate of a Muskingum County, OH high school preparing to teach and who is entering the final year of college, ready to student teach. Application deadline is June 30, 2012. Application is available in Student Financial Services.

American Cancer Society Ohio Division's Survivor Scholarship Program
Applicant must be a resident of Ohio, U.S. Citizen, diagnosed with cancer before age 21, under age 25 at time of application, and plan to attend an accredited university or community college in the united States. American Chemical Society Scholars Program
100 scholarships will be awarded to undergraduates interested in four-year degrees in the chemical sciences. The scholarship is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic and Native-American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences. The scholarship is valued at up to $2500 per year for freshmen, $3000 for sophomores and $5000 for juniors and seniors. Applications and more information are available at www.chemistry.org/scholars.

American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.
Scholarships are available to undergraduate engineering and engineering technology students. Applications are available in student Financial Services or at www.ashrae.org (click on the Student Zone or search the short-cut menu for "Scholarships").

Buick Achievers Schoalrship Program
High School seniors and current undergraduates planning to major in engineering, technology, design or business with an interest in the automotive industry. Apply at www.buickachievers.com by February 29. 2012.

Business and Professional Women's Club of Zanesville
Scholarship Awards being offered to female resident of Muskingum County who will be a non-traditional student. Application deadline is April 20, 2012.

Canton Audubon Society
CAS is offering a $1000 scholarship to students majoring in Environmental Sciences or related fields. This scholarship is available to college students at Junior level and above. A copy of the Guidelines & Application papers can be accessed by going to www.cantonaudubon.org.

Carr Center Memorial Scholarship
Applicants for this scholarship must be Muskingum County residents with a physical or sensory disability. The deadline is March 31, 2012. Applications are available at www.carrcenter.org.

The Charles B. & Alice V. Moody Health Care Scholarship Endowment was established in 2007 by Alice V. Moody in memory of her husband Charles B. Moody.  During the 2011 – 2012 academic year, this scholarship will provide funds for applicants pursuing a degree in nursing, medical or allied health from Muskingum University. The Moody Scholarship Application must be submitted by June 20, 2011.

Choose Appalachian Teaching Scholarship
The CAT scholarship program is for future adolescent-to-young-adult (AYA) mathematics and science teachers in southern and eastern Ohio. CAT scholarships are undergraduate scholarships for two, three, or four years in the amount of $4,000 per year at Muskingum University. Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD)
David V. Stivison Appalachian Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to students who are residents of the 30 counties in COAD's service area and who want to attend college, but lack the required resources. CSOHIMSS Scholarships
The CSOHIMSS Chapter is offering our annual Jane A. Blank Distinguished Member Scholarship Award in the amount of a $1,000.00 scholarship along with a one-year HIMSS membership ($30.00 value) to an undergraduate or graduate student studying in the healthcare management systems or healthcare information fields. TheNon-Traditional Student Scholarship Program is for part-timecertificate, undergradutate or graduate student studying in the healthcare information or healthcare management systems field at an accredited degree-granting institution.The $500.00 scholarship (cash award) and one year HIMSS membership is awarded to the student deemed most deserving by the CSOHIMSS Scholarship Committee. DeLoitte & Touche
The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges is pleased to announce the renewal of the Deloitte & Touche Scholarship Program for students planning to become CPAs. Current scholars must re-apply. Deloitte & Touche is very interested in cultivating relationships with their scholars and they will be strongly encouraged to apply and interview for an internship or work-study program with Deloitte during their college careers, although these opportunities are not required to receive the scholarship. Firelands Chapter OSCPA
Offering at least $2000 in scholarships for the 2011-12 academic year to a fourth or fifth year student with an accounting major. Student must live in Erie, Huron, Lorain or a contiguous County, US Citizen, minumim 2.5 GPA and file the FAFSA. Applications are available at www.pncpa.biz. Deadline is Friday, May 6, 2011.

Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching: Minority Teacher Scholarship
This is an annual scholarship for minority students aspiring to become teachers. Undergraduate and graduate students with a 3.0 GPA (or higher) are eligible. The amount of the scholarship is $1000. We define minority as someone of one of the following ethnicities: African American, Asian American, Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander. Applications must be received by December 20th. Foundation for Appalachian Ohio
The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities are now available for students pursuing post-secondary studies. Garden Club of Ohio

Guernsey County Business and Professional Women
Offering a $250 scholarship to a female resident of Guernsey County who is currently enrolled or has been accepted in college. Please stop in student financial services for an application. Application is due April 18, 2011.

JRF Scholarship Program
Since 1978, the Jeannette Rankin Foundation has awarded scholarships to help over 500 women attend college. To be eligible a woman must be 35 or over, a US Citizen, enrolled in or accepted to an accredited school, pursuing a technical or vocational education an associate's degree or a first bachelor's degree, and be low-incomeaccording to the US Dept. of Labor's Lower Living Standard. Learning Disability Association of Ohio
LDA is offering 2 scholarships of $400 each to students who have been identified with a learning disability. Students must be Ohio residents. Applications are available in Student Financial Services an must be post-marked by April 30, 2011.

National Federation of the Blind
The NFB has a large scholarship program whose awards are made solely to persons who are legally blind. Applications are avaliable at www.nfb.org/scholarships. Application deadline is March 31st.

Ohio Academy of Science
Offering the Ohio Environmental Science and Engineering Scholarship Program. Scholarships are available to students who can demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to careers in environmental sciences or envoronmental engineering. Ohio Blue Shield Fund

Ohio Environmental and Engineering Science Scholarships
Scholarships available from The Ohio Academy of Science. These scholarships provide partial support for the last few quarters or semesters needed to complete a degree. College students must be in the last year of a four or five year program or second year of a two-year program by this autumn. Funded by The Ohio Environmental Education Program, students at two-year colleges receive $1,250 and students at four-year schools receive $2,500. Stark County Retired Teachers' Association
Available to college juniors or seniors in the field of education this fall who have graduated from a high school in Stark County, OH. Five $1200 grants will be awarded. Application available at www.scrta.net. Application deadline is May 20, 2011.

Talbots Charitable Foundation
The Talbots Scholarship Foundation will award $180,000 in college scholarships for the 2012 academic year. i to finalists demonstrating courage, conviction and an insatiable entrepreneurial spirit. Thomas J. Seefred Trust
A perpetual fund that will award scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to college students between 18-25 years old who are suffering from Juvenile Diabetes. Students must be successfully completing a standard curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree at an accredited junior college, college or university. Applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2011. Youngstown Panhellenic Association
A $1500 scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year to an undergraduate who is an active member of a National Panhellenic Conference Sorority. The applicant must be a full-time sophomore, junior, or non-graduating senior woman who resides in Mahoning, Trumbull, or Columbiana county in the state of Ohio. The award will be based on scholarship, financial need, leadership, and sorority participation. The award will be paid directly to the university’s financial affairs office. Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay contest 2011
This contest was created to challenge college students to comtemplate ethical issues facing them in today's complex society and to analyze their own perception and thoughts on ethics. Full-time juniors and seniors are eligible to compete. Awards are up to $5,000. The deadline is December 6, 2010. Contest guidelines and entry form can be found at www.eliewieselfoundation.org.

Florence Allen Scholarships
The Florence Allen Scholarship program was established in 1924 to honor Judge Florence Ellinwood Allen, Ohio’s first woman Supreme Court justice. Scholarships are awarded to help Ohio women achieve their full potential through education. Scholarship funds are for the 2011-12 academic year and may be used for courses at accredited degree-granting institutions recognized by a state Board of Regents. The completed Florence Allen Scholarship application and all supporting documentation must be hand-stamped (not metered) and postmarked on or before March 1, 2011.

HRSA's 2010 Nursing Scholarship Program Applications accepted April 1 through May 6
Available to students enrolled in all types of registered nursing programs, the Nursing Scholarship Program pays tuition, education-related expenses (including books, clinical supplies and laboratory fees) and a living stipend. In exchange, scholars must commit to working for at least 2 years after graduation at a health facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Preference is given to qualified applicants with the greatest financial need who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate RN program. Applicants must begin classes for the Fall term on or after July 1, 2010 and no later than September 30, 2010. It is expected that 500 awards will be made for the 2010-2011 school year. Hudson Economic Development Corporation
Applicants for the Edward E Devlin Scholarship for Economis Development must be Hudson, Ohio residents studying urban planning, city and regional planning and/or economic and community development at an Ohio university.
