Getting Started - Writing a Cover Letter

To properly introduce your resume you always want to send a cover letter with your resume. You can think of it as the introduction of your resume. Each cover letter you send should be tailored for that specific position. For example, how you are qualified for that position or why you would be a good fit with that organization. Do not reiterate your entire resume, remember you are including it. To avoid making some of the common mistakes made while creating a cover letter please review 10 Common Mistakes to Avoid (pdf). Refer to the two sample cover letters (pdf) for assistance. You may also want to refer to the Personal Qualities and Characteristics Checklist (pdf) to help you describe yourself.
