Muskies end year ranked fifth in NCAA Division III
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, June 4, 2008 - The Muskingum College softball team, under the guidance of the NCAA Division III all-time winninest coach and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame December 2008 inductee Donna Newberry, was ranked fifth in the final NFCA Top-25 Poll. The Muskies have been ranked in the national top-25 every year since 1999.

The Muskies ended their outstanding season with a 41-12 overall record, which included winning their 11th straight Ohio Athletic Conference title and capturing their eighth NCAA Division III Regional Championship in New Jersey en route to advancing to their eighth Division III World Series. Muskingum's 53 games played tied the school record set by the 2001 National Championship squad for most games played in a season.
Muskingum entered NCAA postseason play ranked 11th in the nation. The Muskies were the top-seed in NCAA Regional play and used a three-game winning streak on the final day of play to claim the championship. The Fish set several records in the regional including most runs scored in a game (14), most runs scored in an inning (12) and most home runs in an inning (3). Freshman All-American First Baseman Mary Margaret Boda also became the first-ever Muskie to hit two home runs in the same inning.
