Muskingum vaults into national poll after beating 9th-ranked ONU
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, September 26, 2011 - The Muskingum University football team, fresh of its upset of ninth-ranked Ohio Northern University, received some national attention in the latest D3Football.com Top 25 Poll. [2011 Muskingum Football Picture Day photo gallery]
Muskingum received seven points in the week four D3Football.com poll to garner a ranking of 40th in the nation in NCAA Division III. This marks the first time since 1995 that the Muskies have been ranked. In 1995, Muskingum was ranked as high as 29th in the Don Hansen National Weekly Football Gazette Top 50 Poll.
The Muskies scored 27 unanswered points to stun ninth-ranked Ohio Northern University last Saturday, 27-7. The win moved Muskingum to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the league with Capital University and the University of Mount Union. The last time Muskingum started a season at 3-0 was in 1996.
Muskingum hits the field next at Wilmington College on Saturday, October 1. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
