Burns, Allen, Bajc and McArthur named captains

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, February 23, 2009 - Muskingum University head football coach Al Logan has announced the selection of captains for the 2010 season. Senior quarterback Jake Burns and senior tight end Blake Allen have been named offensive captains. On the defensive side of the ball, senior defensive lineman Chad Bajc and senior defensive back CJ McArthur have been selected as captains.

Burns, who ranked third in the Ohio Athletic Conference in total offense per game (232.6) and fifth in passing yards per game (186.6) in 2009, ended his stellar season ranked second all-time at Muskingum in career total offense (4,557) and ranked third all-time in career passing yards with 3,766, just 348 yards behind the all-time record. He set a new school mark for touchdown passes in a season with 14 and set the school record for total offense in a game with his 381-yard performance against Ohio Northern University. Burns was honored for his play with All-OAC Honorable Mention accolades.

Allen, an All-OAC Honorable Mention selection in 2009, registered career-highs in receptions (28), yards (331) and touchdowns (4). He averaged 33.1 yards receiving per outing and 11.8 yards per catch.

Bajc, who started all 10 games for the Muskies, led the team in tackles for loss (9.0) and sacks (4.5). He collected 42 tackles and recovered two fumbles for 94 yards. Bajc currently has 8.5 career sacks, which places him just one sack shy of entering the top ten overall in Muskingum history.

McArthur ranked fifth on the team with 44 tackles and played all 10 games in the defensive secondary. He recorded one interception, one pass break-up and recovered one fumble during the 2009 season.

The Muskies are led by Head Coach Al Logan - the 2009 OAC Football Coach of the Year. Logan, a 1982 Muskingum graduate and a former Muskie All-American and member of the Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame, led the Muskies to a 4-6 overall mark and 4-5 slate and fifth place finish in the OAC. He directed the Muskies to their highest league finish since the 2003 campaign. Muskingum ended the season as one of the hottest teams in the league, winning four of its last six games.

Muskingum opens up the 2010 season at home against Defiance College on September 4 at 1:00 p.m.
