Whiteman named Second Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 26, 2009 - Muskingum College junior catcher Brock Whiteman has been named Second Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American.
Whiteman, a special education major, carries a 3.67 grade-point-average. He led the Muskies this season in batting average (.372), slugging percentage (.650), on-base percentage (.467), hits, 51), RBIs, 42), doubles (10) and home runs (8). Whiteman also paced the Muskies with 17 multiple hit games and 12 multiple RBI games.
Since the end of the season, Whiteman has been honored for his play by being named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Second Team All-Mideast Region. Additionally, he was named First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV for and Academic All-OAC for his work in the classroom.
A total of three players have been named Academic All-American under Head Coach Gregg Thompson's tenure. They include Brock Whiteman (2009), Ryan Alexander (2003) and James Grandey (1999).
