Muskies ranked sixth in Mideast Region
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, March 27, 2007 - The Muskingum College baseball team off to its best start in school history at 13-1 was ranked sixth in the Mideast Region in the latest regional rankings released by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball.
The Black & Magenta have reeled off a school record 13 straight wins and their offensive onslaught has propelled them to the top of the Ohio Athletic Conference in runs scored (140), RBI (123), walks (71), doubles (33), and triples (7). Furthermore, the Muskies are second in the league in batting average (.341) and team ERA of (3.39). The pitching staff has recorded 76 strikeouts and a league-high seven saves, while forcing the opposing batters to hit into a league-high 19 double plays.
Additionally, earlier in the season Head Coach Gregg Thompson etched his name in the records book as the all-time career wins leader for the Muskie baseball program following the Muskies' doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame College on March 6. With the pair of victories, Thompson passed his former mentor and late skipper Ron Mazeroski.
