Mission Statement
The Humanities Major at Muskingum University is a self-designed interdisciplinary major in which a student takes a minimum of 40 credit hours from 4 departments in the Arts and Humanities Division (Art; Communication, Media, and Theatre; English; Music; Religion and Philosophy; and World Languages). It is for self-starting and self-sustaining students who want to create their own area of study. Regardless of the specific courses chosen to complete the major, the mission of the major is to encourage a student’s thinking skills, develop the ability to write, and to explore some aspect of the human condition, especially through the senior project.
The major has a clear relationship to the University’s mission. It builds an appreciation for the place of human being in society, the ability to think for oneself, and communication skills.
