OHIO COLLEGE OF PODIATRIC MEDICINE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

2007 Scheduled Sessions: January 2-5, January 8-12, June 4-8, June 11-15, July 9-13, July 16-20.

The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine internship program provides students considering health careers an opportuniyy to see what the field of podiatry has to offer as well as the education it involves. With only eight podiatry schools within the United States and approximately 14,000 podiatrists practicing today, often students do not recognize podiatric medicine as a viable option.

OCPM's Pre-Professiona Internship Program is a week-long experience. It serves as an introduction to the multi-facted educational, clinical, and career involvement as Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M).

Students will:

  • Interact with several podiatrists in hospital, private practice and clinical settings.
  • Experience actual classroom settings with current students.
  • Discover the city of Cleveland, home of medical excellence.

The requirements are that applicants have completed at least one year of undergraduate school and have maintained a G.P.A. of at least a 2.5. The only cost is transportation to and from Cleveland, Ohio, as well as possible housing if attending in June or July .

GUEST SPEAKER TO LECTURE ABOUT ENZYME INHIBITORS

You are invited to hear Dr. Xiche Hu lecture Monday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. in BSC 336. Dr. Xiche is from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toledo.

Title:
"Molecular Design of Enzyme Inhibitors: What is the Challenge?"

Abstract:
Structure-based design of enzyme inhibitors is rapidly emerging as one of the major tools of modern drug discovery. A prerequisite for the formation of a potent protein-inhibitor complex is the distinctive recognition of the inhibitor by its binding protein, which is normally achieved through non-bonded interactions. Therefore, an accurate and thorough understanding of non-bonded interactions is of great importance to structure-based drug design. In this lecture, Dr. Xiche He will describe in detail high-level quantum chemical analysis of protein-ligand interactions in the context of several structure-based drug design projects in the laboratory, including structure-based design of anti-cancer drugs and new antibiotics.
