Instrumental Ensembles

 

Chamber Ensemblespercussion ensemble

Chamber Ensembles are small ensembles that perform one formal concert each semester, and that also have opportunities for additional performances in the surrounding community.  Students learn the basic fundamentals of playing in a small ensemble setting.  Each ensemble is coached by a Muskingum faculty member and the available ensembles include flute choir, clarinet ensemble, saxophone ensemble, brass ensembles, percussion ensemble, and steel drum band.

The Jazz Ensemble is devoted to studying and performing this uniquely American art form.  A wide range of repertoire, representing different style periods is performed.  A variety of ensembles are offered ranging from small combos to a full big band.

 

 

 

Marching Band

The Marching Band performs at all home football games.  Open to students from all majors, the Marching Band provides spirit and energy that is an integral part of the game atmosphere.  Shows are designed, created, and taught through student direction, under the supervision of the Director of Bands.  For more information, click here or e-mail Aaron Jacob Vance, avance@muskingum.edu, or Dr. David Turrill, dturrill@muskingum.edu.

The Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds is comprised of professional and gifted amateur musicians from throughout the southeastern Ohio.  The Symphonic Winds performs a wide variety of repertoire ranging from the standard repertoire to selections from the Broadway stage in a yearly concert series.  Students may join through audition.

The Wind Ensemble is the premiere instrumental ensemble on campus, and is comprised of students from all academic majors.  Open only through audition, the Wind Ensemble performs a yearly concert series as well as an annual tour.  The Wind Ensemble performs the finest literature for winds and percussion ranging from the standard repertoire to contemporary works.

 

Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra

The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra is a regional orchestra whose home is Muskingum University.  Students may join the orchestra through audition.  More informaion can be found at the SEOSO website at www.seoso.org


Vocal Ensembles

The major choral ensemble on campus, this group performs a repertoire including sacred and secular music ranging from the Renaissance to the present.  The Concert Choir welcomes students from all programs throughout the university but may require an audition.

 


Chamber Singers

A sixteen voice ensemble chosen by audition from the Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers perform frequently at concerts, luncheons, and banquets, both on and off campus.  An eclectic repertoire marks the versatility of this ensemble.

Choral Society

Open to both students and the surrounding community, the Choral Society performs major choral works with the Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra.

Men's Chorus

The Men's Chorus is open to all men on the campus as well as alumni and friends.  During the school year, this versatile ensemble offers several performances on campus in addition to appearances throughout the community.

Musical Theatre Ensemble

Musical Theatre Workshop is designed to provide a creative approach to music theatre and operatic scene study and performance.  Performances include fully staged scenes from musicals, operettas, and operas.

Women's Chorus

This student created emsemble is now a course and provides an opportunity for women from throughout campus to gather together to study and perform SA through SSSAAA choral ensemble literature.
