Department of History, Muskingum University New Concord, Ohio

  • Teach and design courses in Early Modern European, Modern European and World History.
  • Developed new courses for the college curriculum, including a course on the Holocaust and one on history and gender.
  • Supervise seminar projects of senior history majors.

Center for Advancement of Holocaust Studies, USHMM, Washington, DC

Teaching Fellow, June 2009, Curt C. and Else Silberman Seminar for University Faculty

  • Chosen as one of twenty faculty, across North America, to participate in this teaching workshop, led by Peter Hayes
  • Workshop consisted of presentations, participant-facilitated discussions on classroom teaching methods, and roundtable discussions on teaching strategies across multiple disciplines.

Center for Advancement of Holocaust Studies, USHMM, Washington, DC

Teaching Fellow, January 2002

  • Attended one week seminar on the teaching of the Holocaust at the college level, held at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, led by Professor Henry Friedlander.
  • Participated in discussions regarding appropriate materials (print and video) for use in the college classroom.
  • Discussed alternative forms of assignments, such as journals (both on-line and print), in order to immerse students more deeply in the subject matter.

Department of History, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio

Teaching Associate, September 1998 – July 2001, September 1996-June 1997

  • Taught approximately 720 students over four years in Modern European and Early American survey classes.
  • Developed classes including crafting syllabi, choosing texts, assembling reading packets, writing lectures, and grading exams and papers.
  • Designed multi-media presentations to enhance lectures and discussions.
  • Assisted with and graded a course on the Holocaust taught by Professor Alan Beyerchen.

Preparing Future Faculty Program, Columbus, Ohio
Preparing Future Faculty Fellow, January - June 2000

  • Selected to participate in a national program that pairs doctoral students from Research I institutions with professors in their fields of study at nearby liberal arts colleges.
  • Observed American history survey-level and Modern European upper-level classes.
  • Interacted with faculty, students and staff at Ohio Wesleyan University.
  • Developed a greater understanding of professional and personal demands placed on faculty members at liberal arts institutions.
International Catholic Child Bureau, Incorporated, New York, New York
Assistant to Executive Director, September 1992 to August 1994

  • Advocated for children's rights for the North American branch of the International Catholic Child Bureau (ICCB).
  • Attended and participated in United Nations (ECOSOC) and UNICEF committee meetings and working groups such as The Rights of the Child, Education of the Girl Child, and Displaced and Refugee Populations.
  • Conducted extensive research on child rights related issues, particularly child prostitution and pornography, street children and displaced and refugee children and established a resource center.
  • Coordinated collaboration between child rights organizations at the United Nations and ECPAT (End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism) in order to initiate a public awareness campaign.
  • Wrote and researched articles for the local newsletter and global magazine.
