First Circle

First Circle, a magazine dedicated to literature and the arts, is an annual student publication of Muskingum University. Submissions are accepted year round at the English Department, Cambridge Hall, Muskingum University, New Concord, OH, 43762. First Circle publishes the work of students, faculty, alumni, and others. First Circle does not accept responsibility for submitted materials; materials are returned if submitted with a self-addressed stamped envelope.

VPAA speaking Cake with Shakespeare on it
REFLECTION ON FORTY YEARS IN ACADEME. Dr. Paul Reichardt, VPAA, reads an original poem at the First Circle student-faculty reading this November.

SWEET BARD. The November student-faculty reading had a Shakespeare theme, so a cake was provided with the face of the Sweet Swan of Avon.

Professor at podium student editors
OUR NEXT READER... Professor Bil Kerrigan of the History Department served as emcee for the October student reading hosted by First Circle. The theme was "old and new." Student readers chose a poem from an earlier edition of First Circle and read that, followed by their original works. PLANNING THE MAGAZINE. Student editors sit in the English suite and discuss what works to include in the creative writing magazine. First Circle includes poetry, prose, non-fiction, photography, and art work.
