Having problems downloading DOCx files using Internet Explorer?

Commonly experienced with Blackboard, this is an Internet Explorer 7 (or higher version) configuration change. To remedy, adjust your IE browser settings as follows:

1. Select Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Custom Level.
2. Scroll down to the setting that says "Open Files Based on Content, not file extension" found under the Miscellaneous category.
3. Set to Disabled. (If this is enabled, IE will treat the files as zip files. If it's disabled, it should open the file.)

Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Pack

By installing the Compatibility Pack, in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats.
