What type of information should my cover letter include?

Your cover letter is the first thing employers see when they open your materials. What type of information should your cover letter include?  Because the cover letter is accompanied by your resume, you do not need to simply restate that information.  The cover letter is a chance to sell yourself specifically to a company and highlight areas that will help you appear to be the perfect person for the position.  This is where your research will come in handy.  Find out details about the opening and the company, and be specific about how you can fill the role.
