Hawkins, Guinsler and Gromes named All-OAC
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, NOVEMBER 6, 2006 - The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum College volleyball senior middle hitter Amanda Hawkins has been named first team All-OAC, while senior libero Elizabeth Guinsler and senior setter Jessica Gromes were named third team All-OAC.
Hawkins led the Black & Magenta with 406 kills and 110 blocks. She recorded a team-high .312 hitting percentage and also logged 138 digs and 25 service aces. Twice this season Hawkins smashed 25 kills in a game which is tied for fourth all-time at Muskingum for kills in a game. Hawkins is a two-time All-OAC honoree and ends her tenure with 973 career kills which ranks seventh all-time at Muskingum.
Guinsler led the team with 883 digs and 39 service aces. Her 883 digs and 7.48 digs per game average ranks first at Muskingum for a single-season. Guinsler owns the school record for digs in a match with her 53 dig performance against Ohio Northern last season. Additionally, her 46 dig effort this season against Heidelberg College ranks second. Guinsler ends her career as Muskingum's all-time career digs leader with 1,824.
Gromes led the Muskies with 1,024 assists, which marked the fourth straight year that Gromes has topped the 1,000 assist plateau. She also recorded 461 digs , 59 kills and 18 service aces. Furthermore, she ranks second all-time with 1,629 career digs and ranks third, fourth, fifth and sixth for most assists in a single match. Gromes, a two-time All-OAC honoree, ends her career as Muskingum's all-time career assist leader with 4,898.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Elizabeth Zicha, the 10th winningest active coach in NCAA Division III, Muskingum advanced to the OAC Tournament Championship game with wins over 21st-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College and 25th-ranked Capital University en route to its 21st season of 17 or more wins.
