Muskingum names Nick Gallagher men's lacrosse coach

NEW CONCORD, OHIO, June 4, 2013 - Muskingum University has named Nick Gallagher as its first-ever men's lacrosse head coach.

Nick GGallagher arrives at Muskingum after being an assistant coach for the men’s lacrosse team at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Since 2010, Gallagher has assisted in all day-to-day operations of the Mule program and served as the offensive coordinator, goalie coach, face-off coach and man-down coach. Under Gallagher’s tutelage, nine Mule players were named all-conference and the team achieved three victories over nationally-ranked opponents.

“Muskingum is excited to announce that Nick Gallagher has been hired as its first men’s lacrosse coach,” said Muskingum Athletic Director Larry Shank. “Nick’s experience and deep knowledge of the sport, coupled with his enthusiasm make him a perfect fit at Muskingum. I’m looking forward to Nick building a successful men’s lacrosse program.”

Prior to Muhlenberg, Gallagher was the assistant men’s lacrosse coach at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. He aided in managing the squad to its longest winning streak in school history and assisted in all operations of the NCAA Division III program.

“I’m overwhelmed with excitement and very grateful to be given the opportunity to build Muskingum’s men’s lacrosse program,” said Gallagher. “I think we have a great opportunity to recruit some outstanding student-athletes who will help showcase Muskingum and set the foundation for a national-caliber program.”

Gallagher played collegiate lacrosse at Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a four-year letterwinner and captain. He helped lead the Battling Bishops to the 2005 North Coast Athletic Conference championship and to four NCAA Tournament appearances. Gallagher ended his tenure as a three-time all-league honoree. Gallagher graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a concentration in sports management.

During his high school career at Dublin Scioto, Gallagher was a four-year starter and captain who earned All-American honors in 2004. He guided the team to the 2003 Division I Ohio State Championship and to runner-up positions in 2001 and 2004. Gallagher’s outstanding play was recognized by being a three-time All-Ohio and three-time All-Midwest honoree.

For the 2013-14 year, Muskingum will field a team that will compete at the junior varsity level, in preparation for the NCAA Division III competition the following year. The teams will play their home games on the ProGrass Turf on Sherman Field in McConagha Stadium.
