Allen, Thomas, Beatty and Premdas named captains
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 10, 2011 -
Muskingum University head football coach Al Logan has announced the selection of captains for the 2011 season. Senior tight end Blake Allen, senior linebacker Alex Thomas, senior linebacker James Beatty and senior defensive lineman Rob Premdas will lead the Muskies during their fall campaign.
Allen, an All-Ohio Athletic Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2009, missed the entire 2010 season due to illness. In 2009, he registered career-highs in receptions (28), yards (331) and touchdowns (4). He averaged 33.1 yards receiving per outing and 11.8 yards per catch. For his career, Allen has hauled in 40 catches for 471 yards and four touchdowns.
Thomas led the Muskie defense last season with 84 stops. He ranked fifth in the
conference averaging 8.4 tackles per game and ranked second in fumble recoveries
with three. Thomas has registered 187 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, two sacks, recorded six fumble recoveries, six interceptions and forced four fumbles throughout his three-year
career.
Beatty ranked second on the team last season with 64 tackles. He had 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Throughout his three-year career, Beatty has amassed 150 stops, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered two two fumbles and secured one interception.
Premdas logged 22 tackles in 2010 with one tackle for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has 67 career stops, seven tackles for loss and four sacks throughout his three-year tenure.
The Muskies are led by Head Coach Al Logan - the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Football Coach of the Year. Logan, a 1982 Muskingum graduate and a former Muskingum All-American and member of the Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame, has rewritten Muskingum’s offensive records with his spread-option offense in his first four years at the helm of the program. The Muskies have set new school marks for most passing attempts in a season, most touchdown passes in a season, most passing yards in a season, most pass completions in a season, most first downs passing in a season, most passing attempts for a game and best average passing yards per game.
Muskingum opens up the 2011 season at Defiance College on September 3 at 1:30 p.m.
