Whiteman, Carder and Burkhart honored by OAC
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, May 17, 2007 - The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum College freshman catcher Brock Whiteman and freshman second baseman Wes Carder were both named Second Team All-OAC. Moreover, senior infielder Ryan Burkhart was named Academic All-OAC.
Whiteman, who hit .343, led the Black & Magenta in at-bats (137), hits (47), triples (5), home runs (4), RBI (37), total bases (75) and slugging percentage (.547). Furthermore, he scored 25 runs, belted six doubles and started 37 games. Whiteman started his Muskie career being named OAC Baseball Hitter of the Week following the Muskies' impressive 9-1 Florida spring trip where he hit .476.
Carder led the Fish in hitting with a .422 average and was second on the team with 43 hits and two triples. He played in 33 games and logged 102 at-bats, scored 27 runs, hit four doubles, registered 18 RBI, tallied 51 total bases and notched a .500 slugging percentage.
Burkhart, a Neuroscience/Pre-Med major, carries a 3.77 grade-point-average. He had a career-year at the plate hitting .316 with seven doubles and 17 RBI. Burkhart had 79 at-bats and scored nine runs and totaled 32 bases.
The 2007 season was a record-breaking campaign for Muskingum. Head Coach Gregg Thompson etched his name in the records book as the all-time career wins leader for the Muskie baseball program following the Muskies' doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame College on March 6. In only 12 seasons at the helm of the Black & Magenta, coach Thompson has amassed 257 career win. The old mark of 239 was held by Thompson’s former mentor Ron Mazeroski. Additionally, the Muskies set the school record with its 15-game winning streak this season, which also allowed the Black & Magenta to set the school mark for best start of a season at 15-1.
